Weekend Twelve showcased what is, in my opinion, the best rivalry in college football and one of the best rivalries in all sports. Ohio State vs. Michigan seemed to actually live up to the hype, with an Ohio State victory over Michigan 42-39. The game was dampened a bit by the passing of a legend, Bo Schembechler, the day before the game. Needless to say, Bo (and Woody for that matter) would not have liked the game given the nearly 900 yards of offense and over 80 points scored. This weekend gives us several match-ups that are key to the BCS equation. Notre Dame travels to LA to take on USC while LSU can seriously hinder Arkansas (and by extension Floridas) chances to get to the game.

(9) LSU at (5) Arkansas (PICK)
This game has several implications for the BCS. If LSU wins, it has an outside shot at a BCS At-Large bid if the cards fall right. IF Arkansas wins impressively, it still has an outside shot at the BCS national title game with a win against Florida in the SEC championship game. Arkansas is on a roll. LSUs quarterback tends to try to force things when playing in a big game like this. Will he make another big mistake? I think so.

Here is yet another game pitting 2 teams with BCS hopes. USC and Notre Dame can both make a statement and put their teams into a good spot for the BCS title game. USC needs to win this game impressively enough to switch 3 or 4 coaches poll voters to vote them over Michigan as #2 OR defeat Notre Dame impressively enough to drop them in the polls to hurt Michigans computer ranking. Notre Dame, conversely, needs to win this game and hope that people have forgotten how badly they were beaten by Michigan in week 3 of this season. USC is by far the better team. That didnt stop Notre Dame from making it a GREAT game last year. I think USC is better on defense this year and still has enough offense to get past Notre Dame.

(18) Boston College (-4) at Miami (FL)
This will be the 22nd anniversary of the miracle throw by Doug Flutie. Now that might sometimes motivate some teams, Miami is pretty lethargic about everything it seems. They need to win to be bowl eligible.

Texas A&M at Texas (-13)
Texas isnt anywhere near the team it was at this point last season, but if Colt McCoy is healthy, they should win this game. If A&M has a good day throwing the ball, they could make this game interesting for at least 3 quarters.
Texas 38 Texas A&M 20
(4) Florida (-9.5) at Florida State
You have to score points to win. FSU could ruin Floridas chances at the BCS National Title game here. Unfortunately a long year will only get longer. FSU wont really ever be in this one I dont think.

My son, a senior at A&M is at home today along with his best friend, a senior at Texas.
Needless to say, we'll be switching over to ABC in about 5 minutes.
I personally think Texas will win, but they're favored by 13, and the Aggies typically lose in a nailbiter.
Texas and Texas A&M kicking off here in a few minutes.....
yeah...
as I said, A&M needs to throw the ball on Texas. I don't know if they care proficient enough through the air yet to do so.
They will have issues running the ball today I think, although that A&M RB is friggin huge.
Mooseburger is the worst I have ever had the displeasure of being forced to listen to. Anytime he announces we have had to turn the sound off and listen to the Michigan announcers after the middle of the first quarter. This year we'll find some audio of Notre Dame commentators.....:-)
How can someone so incompetent keep doing it year after year......
FBI files?
Nah, it was pretty obvious that Musberger was going to get his shot when Keith Jackson went senile around 2000 or so.
It's only a matter of time until they phase him out too.
Eventually I think Mike Tirico will end up being the main College Football guy.
That would be a good thing I think.
Besides you should LOVE him, he lives in Ann Arbor :)
No matter where he lives, he at least seems to be a decent commentator, never makes the stoopid mistakes Mooseburger does.
Hey....believe it or not, I think Spielman is a great commentator.
No he doesn't.
He's really thorough but allows his commentators to make their points known.
The problem is that Tony Kornhole takes advantage of that.
Well yeah that's because he is :-P
Spielman brings intensity to the broadcast.
I love it.
A bit late but...
A&M ran the ball right down Texas' throat on the first drive in a surprising drive.
That's big. Texas is very good against the run.
>>Larry Coker has been fired by Miami. The press conference is on ESPN at this time.
Lots of great football on today.<<
We knew it was coming but still....
Also kind of ironic to lose both coaches from the big fight.
He is kinda like Major Applewhite or maybe Joe Germaine.
Good QBs but for whatever reason, that big game always seemed to elude them.
yeah...
I actually thought he was safe after they won last night.
But it had to come eventually I think.
They needed a new direction. They still get the athletes to win, but the atmosphere and the system they run just doesn't get the results anymore.
When the Chick Filet Peach bowl locked up the #2 ACC team I bet they thought the lowest profile team they'd get would be FSU or Miami - pretty wild to have neither in the running.
A&M is giving Texas more than they bargained for.
6-0 at the half, so UT is only one play away from gaining the lead.
Still, I'm surprised so far.
Never been so happy to be at a game, instead of watching it on TV. Can't stand Musburger.
Here's the Musburger game in case of "emergency" http://www.fanblogs.com/ncaa/005660.php
Touchdown Longhorns!!!
7 - Longhorns
6- Aggies
Hook'em!
