CBS) LOS ANGELES Drums containing acetone and rubbing alcohol fell from a truck that overturned Wednesday on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, resulting in a precautionary shutdown that caused a traffic nightmare the day before Thanksgiving.
With all southbound lanes closed, holiday traffic en route to Los Angeles International Airport backed up quickly, and motorists were urged to allow extra time and to try alternate routes.
The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. north of Rosecrans Avenue, according to German Aguilera of the county fire department.
The 55-gallon drums contained acetone and rubbing alcohol, described as "corrosive and flammable," and some of the liquid spilled, according to county fire Inspector Sam Padilla.
Hazardous-materials crews were sent to remove the two dozen drums and supervise the cleanup.
The truck driver suffered a minor injury and was taken to a hospital, Aguilera said.

It would have been much worse if the cargo had ignited.
Thank goodness it didn't.
