Kubuntu is great for KDE fans - I prefer Gnome, myself, so I use regular Ubuntu.

A GUI is a GUI right? Why Gnome versus KDE? I never saw that much of a difference.

It is a matter of taste. There are differences - I tend to think Windows users, more or less, will be more comfortable with KDE.
