Good grief. How far are they going to dig to keep this up? One hundred-forty years ago. What's the connection to today?
Just setting history straight.
This story is part of a regular history series in a weekly newspaper targeted at religious Jews. If this appeared in the NY Times or on Sixty Minutes, I'd be suspicious too.
The sources of that conflict, having never been adequately resolved, continue to this day. It is, in fact, precisely what brings many to this forum.
One faction of this country believed(and still believes) in a centralized federal government that dictated, and controlled all.
An opposing faction believed(and still believes) in individual, and states rights over exercising said controls.
Whether those factions are called yankees & rebels, or liberals & conservatives, the same conflicts and struggles continue to be fought.
Just look at congress to see that anti-semitism is alive and well among the New England elite. Little has changed since hostilities were suspended.
at this time, the most vicious racists in the country are clustered in the north & "left coast".
OHIO houses the NATIONAL HQ of the KKK.
NY has more klan-IDIOTS RIGHT NOW,than ANY THREE dixie states COMBINED.
that is the point.

Well, it's common knowledge that the South was blameless during the Civil War, and the North was the impetus behind all hatred and strife.
(psyche)
One other point: I have always been perplexed that the very thing which kept the Jews separate and 'chosen' in the eyes of God is the same thing which caused them to be reviled and rejected among (some) Gentiles.
It is amazing the Jews have retained their compassion and humanity all these years, considering what they went through at the hands of (some) Gentiles).
And it is truly a miracle that Jews have kept their identity so intact all these thousands of years considering they didn't even have a homeland. (until 1946)
Ping!!!!!!
