Without romanticizing the South, had there been no slavery, it seems that the North's cause may have been interpreted a bit differently by historians.

Had there been no slavery there would have been no war, so in that sense you are correct.

had there NEVER been slavery in the Western Hemisphere there would have been a war between the north & south.

the war had LITTLE to do with slavery. even lincoln, sherman & grant admitted that.
