In fact the Civil War did not end slavery in any of the Union states or Union-occupied states--the 14th amendment did.

Correction: The 13th Amendment ended slavery. The 14th Amendment attempted to force the readmitted Southern states to treat its freedmen as full citizens, but unfortunately wound up being the reason the US Supreme Court thinks it has jurisdiction over prayers at high school football games.

in the case of my family, we owned NO slaves, were poor, had a 300 acre subsistence farm & were NON-white.

because almost all the men (those who were able to bear arms) were away with the army & therefore the family was defenseLESS, the DAMNyankee cavalry raped/assaulted/tortured/robbed & finally MURDERED 92 women, elderly men & children under 12 YO, during a 4-day drunken, blood-spattered orgy.

NOBODY cared because "who cares what happens to a bunch of ignorant savages".

also, 4 of 5 of my ancestors, who were "guests" of the DAMNyankees at PLPOWC were MURDERED in cold-blood, just because they were NOT persons.

NON-white CSA prisoners of war were ROUTINELY killed by their captors, as the prevailing attitude was that they weren't worth feeding!

btw, veterans of my generation routinely say "WELCOME HOME, MY BROTHER" to each other, as almost NOBODY was "decent" to us when we came back from OCONUS.

instead we were reviled, cursed, spit upon, had things (you don't want to contemplate) thrown at/on us and (when we got home to our HOR) were generally IGNORED.

we MUST assure that this does NOT happen to this group of honorable WARRIORS, when they come home!
