While the others may not have required any less skill to produce, the subject matter of most of them seemed kind of odd and artificial--more like illustrations than fine art.

Here's a question for you. If "Jesus" was painted by this child at 8, then why has the talent and the maturity level evidenced in this painting decreased in the artist supposedly painting at 12?

I don't know what you're saying??? I haven't seen her paintings "live" so I'm not able to tell what she's done other than what I can see on the screen.

I 'm not an expert (obviously) but I've seen "beginners" draw rather well after 6-8 weeks... if she spends 5 hours a day honing her craft.... well maybe she can.

It should be easy enough to determine the authenticity of the painter.. from what I gather brush techniques, strokes, the use of certain colors to create depth and light tend to be individual in nature and unless she's also a master counterfeiter the first high priced phony to be discovered will be the end of her and the "fake" paintings.

I don't like her paintings personally, don't care if she's a Jew, Christian or Muslim angle, but I've got 4 kids and it would be neat to see them paint some thing with that detail.

I'm saying the stuff she supposedly did at age 8 is far better than the stuff she supposedly did at age 12.

Oh, OK. I don't know if it is "better". .. I like Picasso's early stuff not his later works...

Same with Van Gough.... early stuff I liked...later stuff, not as much. Doesn't "progression" to an artist mean different things.

like I said, it should be easy enough to check.

Psychiatrists that have spent time with Akiane can't explain why she is a linguistic genius. They call it a miracle.

(et cetera)

In this layman’s humble opinion, someone’s laying it on awfully thick.

There is a difference between taste and judgment: you are describing taste; I'm making a judgment. You might not know if it is better, but it is. Relatively more sophisticated technique and observation in every way. It is simply not credible that an 8-year-old, talented or no, could create such a painting; it is even less credible that such a supposed prodigy would create significantly degraded work four years later.

Look, people want to believe. And that desire is, sadly, often exploited.

(Yes, I'm a spelling nazi)

Complete sentences require placement of a period (.) immediately following the final word.

(Aspiring punctuation nazi.)

Picasso was a prodigy and did some brilliant paintings when he was as young as 13. He went to France and was caught up in the French abstract art world, became very much motivated by "progressive" (left-wing) politics and art theory, and ended up being a pathetic, money-driven parody of himself.

Spell check didn't catch this one,

It shouldn't. It's a correctly spelled word...just the wrong correctly spelled word.

...but someone should have. (Yes, I'm a spelling nazi)

And that is the rest of my post which was attached to the first part of my post which is the part you copied. I see this stuff all the time. I bought some underwear for the Mr. the other day. It came in packages of three. The package boasted:"THREE PAIRS". Well, at least they got "Three" right!

I guess my nit picking comes from my Mom. Her folks were immigrants in the late 1890's. She didn't learn English until she was 9 years old. I guess the other kids made fun of her. She went on to be one of the best readers in her class, and she won a few spelling bees. HER children came out ahead in reading, spelling, and grammar. Not PERFECT, but ahead of most.

I suppose it doesn't matter much anymore - being able to speak and write English properly. These days you don't even need to understand it!

someone wrote here: “Her parents are making a fortune on her “paintings”...if they are so Christian, why not donate ALL that money? I just don’t trust when the Bandwagon starts to roll....just BECAUSE someone is Christian. Does not bode well for Christianity.” and now I answer Exactly! First Akiane said to her parents, that her money (for her paintings) can not to be fortune of her parents. These are her words. But no what I see? They build new home, because Akiane can not works near washhouse. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now her mother said: “Mums per daug to aukso, deimantų, talentų, genijų, nes mes nebespėjame.” (lithuania...her mother comes from lithuania) [”We have too much of that gold, diamonds, talent, genius, because we can no longer make.”] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW I think akiane was not child prodigy. Child prodigy is then, when child can do something alone, by itself, without aware interference of God... Akiane’s art is not exactly prodigy. She painted her paintings with God, God teached her to paint. God said to her:”You have to do this and I’ll help you.”. Akiane said “”Each time I pick up that brush from my pallet, I feel we’re connected. I don’t need to talk to Him. I already know that He’s there.”...”I paint one thing and second thing paints God” But she is not in contact with Him only by paintings. Look: “He spoke to her through sounds, shapes and sometimes through animals, but mainly with paint “as if it was talking to me”. And are they christians? Akiane said:”“We went through almost everything. We went through being Christian, being a Catholic, we studied Buddhism.” and “I don’t belong to any denomination or religion.” but “Jesus remains my highest authority, love, and God,” she adds.
