Popular Rapper Allegedly Took Cabbie On Joy Ride
(CBS) NEW YORK -- If your child listens to rap or hip hop, he is probably on their iPod.
The Game, a.k.a. Jayceon Taylor, is known as one of the hottest rappers from the West Coast and for his on and off feud with fellow rapper, 50 Cent, but here in New York city, the NYPD said they know him for something else, an impersonator.
They said he tried to pass himself off as a cop.
"Celebrities think they're above the law, but they really aren't," Star Magazine editor, Jill Dobson, said. She isn't surprised by The Game's arrest and said celebrity behavior has gotten out of hand.
"I think the root problem here is that celebrities are just surrounded by people whose jobs depend on keeping the celebrity happy so no one can say you're crazy, don't impersonate a police officer."
According to police, the rapper hopped into a livery cab on 56th and 7th, told the driver he needed to get somewhere, and to drive straight throught the lights.
"That's totally ridiculous. That's insane. They're out of control. All of them," Jacqueline Johnson, said. Her kids listen to The Game, and she wishes musicians would set a better example for their fans.
Eileen Degraaff, agrees: "it's not easy to monitor everything they do in this world we live in and they can get away with saying certain things on the radio."
The Game was arrested for criminal impersonation of an officer and was issued a desk appearance ticket. The arrest came only hours after the game's appearance on the late show with david letterman last night.
We contacted The Game's record label for comment but have yet to receive a response from anyone there.
