WASHINGTON - The government ended a 14-year virtual ban on silicone-gel breast implants Friday despite lingering safety concerns, making the devices available to tens of thousands of women who have clamored for them.
The Food and Drug Administration approved the implants made by Inamed Corp. now part of Allergan Inc. and Mentor Corp., the two California companies said.
FDA planned a teleconference late Friday to announce a product approval.

I don't recognize any of those...but I am old.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., called on Congress to investigate the FDAs decision-making process to make sure it is based on science and not on corporate and political considerations.
So, I suppose she is also going to look into the relationship of abortions and increased risk of breast cancer?
