However, I don't blame the cops about being skittish with the number of cops that have been killed lately. I'm sure no one wants to be the next statistic.

I think the reprobate kept his word and shot the dog. He got one shot off at the police after they opened up Nope.

One last thing...if you listen... Listen to the cops' reaction after the shooting...even they know that this was a bad shoot.

Listen to the cops' reaction after the shooting...even they know that this was a bad shoot. The cops may not have handled it flawlessly but the perp was still 100% to blame.

I see this "attitude" in this culture everyday. A complete lack of respect for authority. If I had been on that scene, I would not have done anything differntly. All the "good guys" went home to their families albeit minis one of "mans best friends".
I would like to make a comment on the officer's gun control. "Nice grouping of your shots"!

Wondering or wandering, get REAL! These people are out in your community and they mean you harm! What don't you get about the idea of getting these vermin off the street promptly.

"They should have just fired one shot after he refused to drop his gun (repeatedly)."
That's not procedure and it's not safe.
I'm gonna shoot some guy holding a weapon - once - and then stand there and wait for him to shoot me back. I don't think so.

Where did you get that? I didn't say anything about not getting these guys of the street, and for good, too. But when it's one guy against an unlimited number of police officers and that kind of adrenalin, he's going to wear out sometime. I still like the blinding them with lights idea.

With all due respect - you need to go join your local volunteer Sheriff's Posse and come back in 6 months and give us your opinion then.

Police execution of a human fool and a dog.
This video shows how police can arrest a crazy man without killing everything in sight.

Police dogs are treated as officers. They have an officer down.
I love dogs and have 2 of my own but A DOG IS A DOG ,, unless you can show me where a dog has the same intellect as an officer and has passed the same written exams I am completely against considering them a humans equal... hell even the cops don't really believe that since they sent the dog in to his death just to bait this perp... The abuse of the legal system must stop..why are dogs considered PROPERTY if it's my dog and elevated to sainthood if it's owned by a gov't agency?
To: Neidermeyer
I can't tell you that. You have to ask the local PD. But I kind of understand this mentality. Cops take it pretty hard when a K9 officer dies. Also, I've got a couple of friends that'd risk their life to save a pet. Then there are the stories of people who die trying to save dogs.

It is preferable to end a standoff without killing if possible, but a knife is not a gun. If the man had been standing there on the porch like that with a knife instead of a gun it would likely not have ended as it did.
This man was clearly ordered to put the gun down at least nine times. The dog was the way the police chose to put a stop to his murderous threats without the man necessarily getting killed. The man chose otherwise. After thinking about this for several days, it appears to me that the police simply took him at his word that he would shoot them if they released the dog. So when they released the dog as promised I guess he was surprised (for a very short while - before he died) that they tricked him by not waiting around for him to shoot first.
Would it have been better otherwise? Yes.
Cordially,

Sorry, by "yes" I mean that he could have been apprehended without anybody getting hurt.
