My wife and I have discussed a similar scheme, sort of an act on the line so to speak:
Telemarketer: May I speak to lafroste?
Lafroste: Who is this?
TM: < doesn't matter>
Laf (to wife in background): This another one your boyfriends? You &^%#$, I'll kill you for this!
Mrs. Laf (in background): No! No! Don't put that knife down!! < screams> < sounds of fighting screaming, then gurgling>
Hang up on TM.
We haven't tried it yet because our kids are always around during these calls and we don't want to upset them.
Actually, I figured out a way to completely, completely stop telemarketer calls in 30 days or less..
1) answer the phone politely
2) when the sales person gives their little talk, be enthusiastic..like you simply can't wait to get your hands on their product
3) the more excited the caller gets (cause they're FINALLY gonna make a sale), get more excited..
then the kicker
4) when they start verifying information (they already have phone number, etc.) answer all questions
5) when they get to the part about income, I told them quote well, I'm unemployed but my wife works part-time, is that ok?? unquote
THEY hang up on me..it's noted on the record that I'm unemployed with a SO that works part-time..when the list is sold, I'm immediately taken off since I have no income..
(I have a nice job with a good income, but THEY don't need to know that)..
ALL telemarketer calls stopped within 30 days..it works like a charm..
An engineer with a good sense of humor! Cool. I hope you two get to do something soon. It sounds like my kinda fun.
My only complaint about the Nat'l No Call List is that I don't get to play with sales people on the phone anymore.
