I saw one of these outside my parent's house, just hanging out (far NW Chicago Suburbs). What's funny was, just a moment earlier, I was wondering why I couldn't hear any birds chirping. [chuckle]
Occassionally I will see a hawk swooping down and grabbing one of my 'welfare sparrows' off the bird feeder and then soaring to the top of the grain elevator to have lunch.
The most amazing sight was when I was walking my dog, heard a 'thump' on the street and saw a hawk had nailed a dove, in flight, took it down, and then proceeded to fly into the vacant lot to have dinner.
Raptors are the 'chuck norris' of the bird community.
