Is "around here" the place where it makes sense that "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" is about Sherman's March? If that's the case, no, I'm not.
Not big on *metaphors,* huh?
Here is Georgia.
We are very sensitive to Sherman's fifty mile scorched earth diagonally through the state. The more accurate song title would be; "The Night the Fires Burned Out in Georgia!" Of course you are totally correct about the lady's comments regarding the two songs but the high horse you're riding just begs to be poked to hear it squeal.
My father-in-law once lived next door to a Mr. Sherman. He was the bane of the neighborhood, a real pariah of the lane. I have long thought that his attitude and the way others responded to it was simply because of his unfortunate name in the Deep South of a generation ago.
My Great Grandfather fought in Company C of the 29th Alabama which after attrition was absorbed into Cobb's Legion. I have disagreed with Stand Watie to a small degree about some Southern Heritage issues but appreciating General Wm. Tecumseh Sherman's march through H_ll throughout eternity is a simple pleasure.
