Open Thread: Why John McCain is Unfit to be President

John McCain is signaling his intent to seek the GOP nomination for president. Unlike many FReepers, I view him as a very real threat to the GOP's chances in 2008. Just look at the polls. We can debate the most important lessons of last Tuesday ad infinitum, but clearly one of them is that polls do reflect public opinion and must be taken seriously.

Based on polling data, McCain is usually described as the front-runner. If he gets the nomination, I believe he will self-destruct during the campaign and guarantee the election of the Democrat candidate.

We have a choice. We can fail to take the threat he poses seriously and end up with another debacle, or we can get serious about finding a better candidate.

I am asking those who see McCain as a disaster in the making to post your reasons. I have many but have started the list with five of them. Please add yours. If you have a blog or know anyone who does, how about starting some discussion of this issue. IMO, the time is now.

Why John McCain is Unfit to be President

1. He has shown more concern about protecting terrorists than the American people.

2. He trashed the First Amendment with his outrageous "Campaign Finance Reform" law.

3. He attacked true American heroes, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, without having read a word of their excellent book.

4. His record on illegal immigration is poor. Despite the impact this problem is having on his state (and the country), McCain has an overall grade of D from Americans for Better Immigration. His career report card shows grades of F on four of the nine issues.

5 The media loves him, which tells us all we need to know.

He left his wife when she got disabled ...

And that's a little known fact...

She was a key mover to help the POW's while JM was incarcerated and did a tremendous amount of lobbying and organization for ALL the prisoners.

McCain was still married and living with his wife in 1979 while, according to The New York Times' Nicholas Kristof, "aggressively courting a 25-year-old woman who was as beautiful as she was rich." McCain divorced his wife, who had raised their three children while he was imprisoned in Vietnam, then launched his political career with his new wife's family money.

#1 Reason: We're tired of being told to hold our noses and put up with RINO stink.

I'm pretty sure Nostradamus warned the world about McCain hundreds of years ago. I see Martin Sheen in the "Dead Zone" when I think of President McCain.

I'm positive I read that members of Arizona's republican party tried to get the (R) removed from behind McCain's name.

Does anyone else remember reading that?
