The Prayer Room: Praying for America, FR, and all who need it
Various | 11/8/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 11/09/2006 6:49:58 PM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1
>

At this time, when feelings run high, the world seems crazy, and anger seems to be the one thing the peoples of the world have in common, I invite you, my fellow FReepers, to join me in prayers and meditation for guidance, God's help and for our fellow man, for America, our troops,  and all our own needs.

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

William Bradbury

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Psalm 46: 1-3

Joh 10:2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
Joh 10:3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
Joh 10:4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
Joh 10:5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."

Oh LORD, keep us in your Truth that we may never follow after one who is a stranger.
May your Holy Spirit guide and direct us today that we might walk safely in the flock and be led on by your Voice.

Psa 29:2 Praise the LORD's glorious name; bow down before the Holy One when he appears.
Psa 29:3 The voice of the LORD is heard on the seas; the glorious God thunders, and his voice echoes over the ocean.
Psa 29:4 The voice of the LORD is heard in all its might and majesty.
Psa 29:5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars, even the cedars of Lebanon.
Psa 29:6 He makes the mountains of Lebanon jump like calves and makes Mount Hermon leap like a young bull.
Psa 29:7 The voice of the LORD makes the lightning flash.
Psa 29:8 His voice makes the desert shake; he shakes the desert of Kadesh.
Psa 29:9 The LORD's voice shakes the oaks and strips the leaves from the trees while everyone in his Temple shouts, "Glory to God!"
Psa 29:10 The LORD rules over the deep waters; he rules as king forever.
Psa 29:11 The LORD gives strength to his people and blesses them with peace.

OH LORD eternal and mighty and full of lovingkindness, thank you for the Voice of your Word which leads us and guides us day by day.

Heb 4:12 The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart.
Heb 4:13 There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes. And it is to him that we must all give an account of ourselves.

Joh 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Oh Most precious Saviour, coming to judge the world, lead us in all Truth.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/i/hisvoice.htm

His voice, as the sound of the dulcimer sweet, is heard through the shadows of death;
The cedars of Lebanon bow at His feet, the air is perfumed with His breath.
His lips as the fountain of righteousness flow, that waters the garden of grace,
From which their salvation the Gentiles shall know, and bask in the smiles of His face.

O! Thou in Whose presence my soul takes delight, on Whom in affliction I call;
My Comfort by day, and my Song in the night, my Hope, my Salvation, my All—
Where dost Thou at noontide resort with Thy sheep, to feed on the pastures of love?
Say, why in the valley of death should I weep, or ’lone in the wilderness rove?

O! why should I wander an alien from thee, and cry in the desert for bread?
Thy foes will rejoice when my sorrows they see, and smile at the tears I have shed.
Ye daughters of Zion, declare, have you seen the Star that on Israel shone?
Say if in your tents my Belovèd hath been, and where, with His flock, is He gone?

“What is thy Belovèd, thou dignified fair? What excellent beauties hath He?
His charms and perfections be pleased to declare, that we may embrace Him with thee.”
This is my Belovèd, His form is divine; His vestments shed odor around;
The locks on His head are as grapes on the vine, when autumn with plenty is crowned.

The roses of Sharon, the lilies that grow in the vales, on the banks of the streams
On His cheeks in the beauty of excellence blow; His eyes are as quivers of beams.
His voice as the sound of the dulcimer sweet is heard through the shadows of death;
The cedars of Lebanon bow at His feet, the air is perfumed with His breath.

Meditation on Matthew 11: 28-30

You call me Lord, to come to you,
You tell me in your arms to cast
All my weariness in a life that's hard,
To find the true peace that will last.

Here I hand you all the burden
All the fears that burn within,
Here I give you all my sadness,
A life that's marked with my own sin

In your eyes I see your welcome,
in your touch, I find my rest
healing in the sound of your voice,
In your presence I am blessed.

In your rest, I find my hope.
In your peace, tomorrow's way
and in the joy you whisper in my heart
You are the dawning of my day.

You are the one good thing I need,
And when all other pleasant things fall
Friends turn away, and things wear out,
You will still be there, my all in all.

Friends I need your help. For those of you so inclined I need prayers.

As many of you know my sister in law Denise has had breast cancer for several years. About two years ago it moved to the bone which she only discovered when her arm snapped at the gym. 10 days ago she couldn’t walk one morning and M. D. Anderson found a tumor around the spine. It is inoperable and only limited radiation can be used. She is now home and we are sure she has only a very short time.

Denise is my wife’s younger sister. She will be 53 on the 12th and my wife 54 on the 10th. They lost an older sister about 5 years ago, and Belinda, two years older than my wife has been fighting a hip – replacement – infection problem for three years. I also fear that losing another daughter will kill my mother in law, Betty.

Denise is a believer. She has been married about 30 years and has raised a stepson and two children of her own. I hate saying of her own because she thinks of them all as her own. I understand how that is because mine are adopted. I just didn’t know how else to put it, I also ramble.

PLEASE direct your prayers to Denise, my sister in law Belinda, and my mother in law Betty. PLEASE include my wife of 35 years, Betty Ann as she is the strength of this family and much of the weight is on her shoulders.

Thanks and God bless you all.

God of my life, to Thee I call;
Afflicted, at Thy feet I fall;
When the great water floods prevail
Leave not my trembling heart to fail!

Friend of the friendless and the saint,
Where should I lodge my deep complaint?
Where but with Thee, Whose open door
Invites the helpless and the poor!

Did ever mourner plead with Thee,
And Thou refuse that mourner’s plea?
Does not the Word still fixed remain
That none shall seek Thy face in vain?

That were a grief I could not bear,
Didst Thou not hear and answer prayer;
But a prayer hearing, answering God
Supports me under every load.

Fair is the lot that’s cast for me!
I have an Advocate with Thee;
They whom the world caresses most,
Have no such privilege to boast.

Poor thou I am, despised, forgot,
Yet God, my God, forgets me not;
And he is safe, and must succeed,
For whom the Lord vouchsafes to plead.
--William Cowper

Lord of All and Merciful Heavenly Father,
Your Faithfulness is unsurpassed and incomprehensible by us. You have forseen our days and have plans for us, for a hope and a future.
Thank you for all the ways you have opened for us in the past.
Help us in our weakness and fear and quiet our hearts by standing so near to us as the Shepherd does in the evening for the sheep.
They are comforted and can rest while he keeps his vigilant care.
Lord, Most Loving and Precious Saviour, Mighty to Save, thank you for your eternal provision for our good.
Receive our Love and prayers for help.
Let all be done in the Wonderful Name of Jesus.

Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others thou are calling,
Do not pass me by.
Saviour, Saviour,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

I still am! Poor, but cute (for someone *our age*)! And now you're one-up on me, since my Sabers are in the storage unit I still haven't been able to get back into.

Hope things start looking up for the ladies in your family!

Thank you.

" ... Just a short update to all - bump and ping as you see fit...

Austin is going in for surgery Friday (the 2d) to place a central line in his chest. Over the next few days, he'll be receiving some drugs (GCSF) that will enable the doctors to harvest his own stem cells to be stored for later. His next phase of treatment is a high dose chemo which will drop his blood counts below the point where people can recover naturally. He will receive his own stem cells back at that time to enable him to recover.

We don't yet know the date when this phase will start, but we are closer now. He'll be home to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, but at the doctor's office very day (including the weekend.)

I want to thank you all again for your prayers - I truly cannot tell you how much it means to us...."

Col 1:11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,
Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Col 1:13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
Col 1:14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
Col 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him.
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
Col 1:19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Col 1:21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,
Col 1:22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Oh Lord, help us to remain steadfast even while wickedness increases.
May we not lose heart but remember that as these things begin to happen, we should lift up our heads, for our Redemption draws near!
We look for you, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, come.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/c/l/cltarryn.htm

Come, Lord, and tarry not;
Bring the long looked for day;
O why these years of waiting here,
These ages of decay?

Come, for Thy saints still wait;
Daily ascends their sigh;
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come”;
Does Thou not hear the cry?

Come, for creation groans,
Impatient of Thy stay,
Worn out with these long years of ill,
These ages of delay.

Come, for love waxes cold,
Its steps are faint and slow;
Faith now is lost in unbelief,
Hope’s lamp burns dim and low.

Come in Thy glorious might,
Come with the iron rod,
Scattering Thy foes before Thy face,
Most mighty Son of God!

Come, and make all things new,
Build up this ruined earth;
Restore our faded Paradise,
Creation’s second birth.

Come, and begin Thy reign
Of everlasting peace;
Come, take the kingdom to Thyself,
Great King of Righteousness.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/t/i/tiswintr.htm

’Tis winter now; the fallen snow
Has left the heav’ns all coldly clear;
Through leafless boughs the sharp winds blow,
And all the earth lies dead and drear.

And yet God’s love is not withdrawn;
His life within the keen air breathes;
His beauty paints the crimson dawn,
And clothes the boughs with glittering wreaths.

And though abroad the sharp winds blow,
And skies are chill, and frosts are keen,
Home closer draws her circle now,
And warmer glows her light within.

O God! Who giv’st the winter’s cold
As well as summer’s joyous rays,
Us warmly in Thy love enfold,
And keep us through life’s wintry days.
