I can't. And I've lived in NY all my life.
Duncan Hunter or Tom Coburn
I don't know much about Hunter, but I reckon Coburn/Pence could be THE answer!
Mike Pence, if he'd sharpen up on illegal immigration and get his name out there.
Because he's nutless and spineless.
"Why not Frist?"
If you want someone with no testicles to run for POTUS, draft Condi.
"Coburn/Pence could be THE answer!"
I could get behind that one. But as Hunter is the only declared candidate right now, until someone better comes along, he's my guy.
I don't think Condi can possibly win against Hillary or even Obama. Bill Frist may be a bit spineless, but he is better than McCain. McCain will be 72 by 2008, that's pretty darn old. To me at least, Frist conveys a sense of competence.
"To me at least, Frist conveys a sense of competence."
Competence? Gang of 14.
Thank you very much.
Well, I understand that as a [self-confessed] New Yorker you might be desperate to get rid of hillary, even by kicking her upstairs. [I used to live in NY (Rochester) myself, so I could identify with it, to an extent]. Still, you ought to consider the greater good. Where is your sense of civic duty? [high time for me to mount the high moral ground and start noisily and grandiloquently farting from there on those below]. Falwell had a point when he said that even Lucifer would be preferable. And Giuliani is no Lucifer. Thus the choice criteria is NOT who's the best candidate but who stands the best chance of keeping hillary away from WH silverware.
Do not knee-jerk spit at the gang of 14. Spit at them if you must, but only after mature reflection [and it takes time to accumulate the saliva, anyway]. During the coming years the ability to botch the rats [through filibuster among other means] could come handy - thus it might be not that bad that the tool is still there.
I don't know. It's definitely going to be interesting to see what shakes out in the next two years. I know some may disagree with me here, but I personally like Rudy Giuliani. I would feel safe with him at the helm. I disagree with him on social issues, but I'm not a political purist. Politics is messy, and I don't expect a politician to agree with me on everything.
Some things I like about Rudy:
He's not afraid to make a stand. He will tell off a rat like Yasser Arafat or a Saudi Prince. I believe he would stand up to the Islamists.
He's steady in a crisis. I know watching him after 9/11 calmed me down. Giuliani didn't know 9/11 was coming, but you didn't hear him whining to the MSM about the federal response. He did what had to be done.
I think he's got the kind of mind that would work well as President--managerial and steady.
I think he would bring in/appoint people that didn't agree with on social issues. He campaigned for Santorum and others in the country that don't share his views on social issues.
We've got a lot of talent in the GOP. Jeb Bush is a good guy and has a similar steady, calming vibe as Guiliani. They were saying on TV the other day that people really love the guy in FL. Unfortunately, 2008 will probably not be his year because of the Bushed-out factor.
I don't know a whole lot about Romney to be able to comment on him one way or the other.
At one time I thought Rice might be a good potential contender but I'm not so sure now. She's made a couple of remarks about Israel that have cooled me some. Also, I think she's too close to Bush--the Bushed out factor again and I don't know if not being married would be considered a plus or a negative.
Personally I'm not a fan of John McCain but he's not all bad (Hillary is all bad) and I would vote for him if he's the nominee.
Anyway, none of our candidates are perfect, they are human after all, but we will have to pick the best one that can win. Maybe there is someone out there that no one is really thinking about that will emerge. How many people outside of Texas and political circles were thinking about George Bush in 1999?
Who are people thinking will be on the Dem lineup? I think Kerry will run again. He's such a pompous air head, he probably still thinks he has a shot.
"who is going to keep Hitlery out of the White House?"
Simply having a woman from her own party running the congress hurts her.
Having democrat women running the whole country will be a bit too much for many voters.
I'd prefer to be prepared for battle rather than hoping two women wouldn't wash with the electorate...
We were hoping this time. Hoping doesn't always work.
And Reagan had a tremendous War. He fought it with the advantage of his understanding of economics and brought down arguably the world's greatest empire. He will be a shining light in history for that but his economic understanding, the tool with which he won is not even in the picture. There will not likely be another such as he. The best we can do is hope our candidates are "conservative" Keynesians(like W) or Monetarists whose tinkerings are less harmful and act like fine grit in the wheels of progress instead of the "liberal" Keynesian rocks or the Socialist mix of rocks and acid.
Maybe, but his father and brother are going to have to talk him into it.Plus side since he will not be Florida governor after January(term limits)he has the time hillary and others don't have to obtain a base and explore possiblities unempedded.
