Take timeout from FR for a while (Vanity post)
Me
Posted on 11/08/2006 4:57:19 PM PST by Big Steve
I have decided to take some time away from FR for a while. This election had something to do with it, I'll admit. MAybe I just need to stop feeling upset every time I read a thread on how bad it was last night. It was bad, but I believe in miracles. Maybe in 2 years the country will see how bad San Francisco style leadership is in the House and restore the House back to the Pubbies. Maybe two years in the minority will make them learn a lesson they will never forget. If they reclaim power, they better use it to advance conservative principles, or they may never get it back again.

Never hurts to take a break from the ol' echo chamber.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

...And now for something completely different:
Go to Google Earth, go to Seattle (enter coordinates 47 36 15.37 N 122 19 56.71 W if you need to) and see some weird views of buildings...apparently the satellite photos of the city were spliced together down street lines and the different angles of perspective have buildings on opposite sides of the street leaning in opposite directions...weird.
...Back to Big Steve and the doom and gloom reports.

Have you read it before? No, and I laid it aside when it turns dark and a war is starting. But, I shall finish it and then read it again straight through.

When you find our Gandalf, please introduce me.
But look carefully...for as we must embrace all who seek the truth, so we must beware all who claim to have found it.

I'm semi-resigning on my sign-up date, November 21.
I'll be back to post sometime next summer.
Besides, my girlfriend is nagging that I spend too much time here and not enough with her :-)

Canticle of Lebowitz, an oldie but goodie, one of my favorite books. It's one of my favorites, too. That and "The Sheep Look Up" by John Brunner. Of course, I also enjoyed "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Heinlein.

Appreciate that - What motivated me to get it off the shelf was some discussion here on the board. Mrs don-o brought it to the marriage almost 20 years ago. An old paperback, falling apart - brownest paper and tiny type.
Still, a whale of a story!

We argue over everything on Free Republic. Got into a row the other day on whether Rachel Ray is better TV cook than that beanpole Giada. Have you noticed that when Giada samples what she has made, she closes her eyes, tastes it, has an orgasm, and then goes backstage and throws up to maintain her 12 in. waist ???

That's exactly my own mental picture. "Everyday Bulimian" This is Italian food, after all. Did you know that Italy leads Europe in eating disorders? That they barely have babies at all? Sort of goes against the fairy tale of the plump Mama making spaghetti, hollering at all the kids, and a volupuous Sophia Loren hanging on the fire escape...

It's Giada for sure, Rachel is a TEASE!
