The difference between Arizona and the Metcalf and Smith races in 1996 in Washington, is that Washington has FAR more Absentee votes then Arizona, AND they only needed to be POSTMARKED by election day, not delivered. Unless that's changed recently, I don't see how this flips, I believe Arizona has neither...In Metcalf's case, he was down, but something like half the vote hadn't been counted. I don't think that's the case here.

Under federal law, overseas and military absentee votes must be counted in federal elections if they are postmarked by election day and received by the state as long as 10 days after election day.
You're right that the number of absentees in Washington are always higher than anywhere else, but apparently they're fairly high in AZ as well. High enough to swing the race to J.D.? That I don't know.

It worried me this year because alot of the recorded phone calls were telling you that the last day to mail ballots was Nov 2. I have never trusted the mail to get things done in a timely manner. AZ did not care when the ballots were postmarked.
