1. Iraq war (not enough troops)
I'll stop there. When fake numbers like 665,000 dead Iraqis are reported as fact, it wouldn't matter if all of what you complain about were the opposite. There will never be enough success in Iraq. It would always be reported as a quagmire or hellhole or whatever.
I can state unequivocally that any Republican voter who stayed home and didn't vote because of the way Iraq is going is not someone I would consider a fellow Republican.
That's my 2 cents.
Not to mention the Republicans played the big game without a defense OR an offense.
While true what you are saying, it must also be recognized that today's liberal media is at it's most shrill level in the history of American media.
They are showing enemy propaganda at it's worst.
Don't think it can all be solved by have a slick talking spokesman.
They openely show enemy propaganda and call it news.
They hate Republicans more than our foreign enemies.
Bush 41s downfall: "No new taxes"
Bush 43s downfall: "No new ideas"
Reasons I see that we lost.
1. People do not like a 4.4% unemplyment rate.
Yes it is low in TX but not in OH, PA, MI where working people continue to lose jobs. Not GWB's fault but GOP gets the blame because we are in power. However, in 2 years Dems will share the blame.
2. The electorate doesn't like low taxes.
Taxes are not low enough for people to notice difference and are offset by rising gas prices (though not since summer) and housing. plus, tax cuts were 5 years ago, public only remembers what have you done for me lately? (Hint: nada)
3. The electorate doesn't like the fact that there have been no further attacks on our soil in five years.
Sad to say, but pols get no bonus points for keeping us safe. If that were so Jimmy and GHWB would still be in office. Can only lose points if people don't trust you on defense (Dukakis, Mondale).
4. People don't like low inflation.
Fed deserves most of the credit. And again, doesn't win you any points - you can only lose points when there is hyperinflation. If public was really smart they would actually blame GWB and congress for ratcheting up the deficit, which is bad for inflation and interest rates. But I don't think they are that smart.
5. People don't like high GDP growth.
Sounds like Carville, "it's the economy stupid." Maybe people can see that billions spent in Iraq is going to stunt US growth down the road (but again I don't think they are smart enough to connect the dots). So more likely that high GDP hasn't translated into high wage growth, except for CEOs. Reagan knew - without trickle down you won't get the support you need from the electorate.
6. People on't like that fact that we have freed 52 million peopel in the lst five years. They quail at the fact that it is taking more that three weeks to clean out the riff-raff in Iraq.
Personally I think that invading Iraq was worthwhile for this reason alone but vast majority of people don't care about a bunch of ragheads whose culture encourages suicide, beheading, etc. GWB would probably get more credit here if freedom had been accomplished without 500K deaths, as was the case with the fall of the iron curtain.
I would expect this type of response from someone in my home state. The state that still has some common sense. What you said is very true. Some here are trying to blame it on us, the voters, we "stayed home". Bull. We had a huge turnout here. It's just that too many people are getting disgusted with the absolute corruption that our government has become, not Republicans party but all of them up there. I'm afraid they won't get any better with the Dims unless they learned something when they were voted out 12 years ago. It's time our government remembered they work for US! They need to be doing what the American people want.
