I remember reading of a sect that drank a solution of some plant extract- I think Strychnos Nux Vomica- as a sacrament. I think the practice is out there.
There surely are very few willing to accept that part of the Gospels, as you can see from this thread most think it's silly, or even stupid to follow very clear words.

Actually some serpent handling groups also drink strychnine mixtures.
I think many of these laws were instituted due to the proximity of the serpents to minor children.
