George Allen in 2008?
FreeRepublic ^ | November 7, 2006 | NapkinUser

Does (almost certainly) losing the Virginia senate election give George Allen more time to campaign for 2008, like Romney and Frist both stepping down does?

He. Wasn't. Going. To. Win. He DEFINITELY wasn't going to beat Hillary. And he wouldn't have won any other race either. Nor will he win the Republican primaries, so the 2008 question is really irrelevant.

I still don't know what's a Makkaka?

It is an epithet meaning "monkey", derived from the genus named Macaca, which includes Macaque monkeys. The genus name comes from makako, a Congolese word meaning monkey. It is the widest ranging genus of primates (aside from humans).

I don't believe in superheroes. I did think Steele was going to win or at least be a lot closer. Weldon wasn't close either. Or JD Hayworth. Ken Blackwell. Lynn Swann. The list of people who should've won but didn't could go on all night. What would've been the point of adding Rudy to that list?

It will be Hillary. Right now I don't see any one on the Republican side who can beat her. Plus, she will be campaigning during a presidential election year with a Democratic Congress on her side. That will make a difference.

You really don't understand what Rudy is if you think any of the people you mentioned are even in the same league as him. They aren't even playing the same game.

That begs the question of why he is brought up anytime 2008 is discussed.

I'll probably be voting McCain in the primaries. He is too liberal in some areas, but he can win.

And you don't understand NY. Look at RI as an example. On the TV, they were showing Chafee's approval ratings. Something like 66 percent. But he was defeated anyway. Why? He's got an R after his name. Nothing else mattered this election.

Because he's a good guy and he's clearly thinking about running. He'll never make it past the primaries.

Chafee is the furthest thing from a superhero you could possibly imagine. He's the most boring candidate on the planet.

Our last, best hope is that the Pelosi Congress gives in to their nutty impulses. Otherwise, I think we're relegated to "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope."

Did I not already say I don't believe in superheroes? Chafee was worthless. And I'm not terribly upset that he's gone. The fact remains: this election was R versus D. The names in front of those letters didn't mean much.

Being to the left of the GOP didn't save Chaffee and Kean and DeWine. Good riddance. Too bad Weak Sister RINO Snowe got re-elected.

Fine. I responded to the Newt suggestion because he's been so demonized by the press, that the "average" (read:misinformed) voter just won't accept him.

It's just a gut feeling I have.

You're on the Drive Bys/MSM to be tough on the Democrats? In your dreams.

Newt doesn't have a prayer. The drive-by will crucify him. McCain is probably the best shot at this point. If anything this election cycle should teach us, is that sometimes we have to hold our nose and take what we can get, or we will be faced with the unthinkable. Like it or not, Hillary will probably be the Dim candidate and we need to put up someone who can take her down. McCain is a "darling" of the MSM and can garner a lot of mods. Then we put up true conservatives for congress and make McCain work with them.... For what it's worth....

I like Mark Sanford a lot. I have relatives in South Carolina. They are hoping he will send Lindsey Graham into retirement in a Senatorial primary. He'd make a decent POTUS too. Trouble is he'd from the deep south and would be immediately labeled too conservative to get elected. However, we would be an asset to any so-called moderate ticket. I am hoping such a ticket would be headed by Romney rather than McCain or Guilani.

Despite the fact that McCain get it about the war against Islamofacism, I think he is unstable and might lose it once he finds out his media pals will go all out to elect Hillary.

Guilani is far more stable and also gets it in the war department. However, his marital problems and liberal social views would not play well in flyover country. Romney beats him in both categories and also gets it in the war department and giving special immigration status and the related tax subsidies to well connected ethnic groups. With a good red-state governor on the ticket, I am convinced he might be the only one who could take down Hillary.

I think the national media feels the same as they are already starting to trash him about his religion since they will not have an easy time trashing an elected governor of Massachusetts over being too far right for America. They will also be unable to trash him over personal problems (he is a strong family man), ethical problems (Mr. Clean who actually earned his fortune), or poor communication skills (he's a dynamic speaker with soccer mom looks) . . . this leaves only the religion card . . . something which is unlikely to get a lot of mileage in the MSM given their orgasms over Harry Reid as the new senate majority leader (same religion) as well as the first Muslim congress critter elected in Minnesota last night.

Please, Allen is an idiot. As dumb as Macacagate was, the worse public relations thing was the "is he Jewish or ain't he" stunt.
