Does (almost certainly) losing the Virginia senate election give George Allen more time to campaign for 2008, like Romney and Frist both stepping down does?

Will be interesting to see if tonight gives the Democrats enough stupid hubris to nominate Hillary instead of someone that can win for them, like, say, Evan Bayh.
Why should he have to? It's his decision, is it not? Do we really want a candidate who doesn't want to run?
People have a way of showing up when there's a vacuum. There will be a conservative choice available in 2008, and I mean beyond Newt.
I'm not sure he's ready yet, but Mike Pence would fit the profile.
And, yes, Gulliani is another Nixon and would a disaster for the GOP.

I understand your enthusiasm for Gingrich. But you're tilting at windmills.
I don't think you understand. It's not about loving Rudy but liking Democrats or whatever.
The reason Rudy would have won isn't because he's a Republican people like, Rudy would have won because anybody running against him would be, to quote Sean Connery, like "Talking a knife to a gunfight." It's not a contest of skills. It's a contest that's way beyond them.
I obviously can't prove he would have won, but I bet you anything he would have.
There is still one very long year of Democratic congressional control for a Reagan-like candidate to emerge. The base will be salivating at anyone resembling Reagan (someone like Mike Pence, my congressman). And, any such conservative stands an excellent chance at beating Hillary Clinton.
If not Hillary, they will nominate Barak hussien Oboma before someone who has a chance of winning like Bayh.
I don't see Obama having any chance to lead a ticket.

I understand, but that is how nominees like Jimmy Carter and John Kerry came about...
If we don't have a *GOOD* nominee we are destined to put forward an also ran.
Nah, McCain is an opportunist. He was kissing the Dems tonight.
I have no idea how you see that. I don't know precisely why we lost but the fact remains there was one party that was the loser tonight. Anyone with an R behind their name might as well have had a bullseye painted on their back.
"Do we really want a candidate who doesn't want to run?"
Correct. I dont want a candidate in 2008 who begged off opportunities to run for offices other than Mayor.
Rudy's main opposition btw was the incompetent Dinkins.
Name me 1 certified superhero that lost tonight.
There isn't one.
I'll throw a name out there.... How about Hailey Barber??
George Allen has no poliical future. He is about as finished as anyone can be.
Me neither, but it does not mean he will not try. Losers John Kerry and John Edwards seem to think they have a chance, not to mention Joe Biden.
He would have trouble winning any state if he can't win Virginia.
