Too much doom! This is only one election cycle. The Dems do not have a clear mandate!

They never have a clear mandate, but that never stops them from claiming one!

What is sad, is that we had a chance to lay a knock out blow on the Liberal wing of the Democrat Party but did not go for it.

Back in 1864 the house went major time for the democrats.
Do we remeber Lincoln or the shift in the house at that time.
Our republic will always have these shifts in political
leanings.
It's beginning to sound like liberal whiners here.
Now let's buck-up
and get back into the fight!

The President will need to dust off his Veto Pen.

I sure hope so. I hope he pulls out his 2 ft long, 3" wide Magic Marker.

It's just too surreal. The House and then the Senate. It's like the twin towers falling, one after the other.

Bush can still nuke Iran, he don't need permission.

That may be what it takes. IIRC, The War Powers Act gives him 90 days to finish a conflict. We theoretically could win any war in about 45 minutes.

Semper Fi Brother.

neither party would ever go for a knockout blow... there is no lobby money if there is no opposition.

But do we have any Pubbies with the abilty, ruthlessness and drive to filibuster?

I think in the minority, and with younger members, we will see a more aggressive GOP Senate.

The GOP Senate had alot of old deadwood that needed to be removed from leadership positions.

Losing the Senate will force a shakeup and hopefully bring some younger blood to the forefront.

Thank you both for your replies (Re posts 65 and 68) One side will lose - this time it happens to be our side. And the pendulum will eventually swing back our way.

Your welcome and spread the word.

Nothing would be more repugnant to me if FreeRepublic became the finger pointing, whining crybabies that the libs are famous for.

Take our lumps, double our resolve and press on.

You are so right.

One mark of a true conservative is the willingness to NOT blame others, but to try to do a better job and learn from our mistakes. No whining. No complaining. We've seen that kind of behavior from the opposition, and they've looked pathetic and childish.

There are valuable lessons to be learned here. I only hope we take this opportunity to learn them.

I gotta agree. As I've watched this whole thing play out since '94 and have seen all the vigor, the "mandate" powered head-of-steam, the good intentions collapse under the weight of human nature, from within and without. The same thing will happen to the Dems and they will be thrown out one day and around it goes.

I see Pelosi, screeching on my TV screen right now and it disgusts me. I want to believe that she has people's best interests at heart but she just seems like what she really wants is to be the bigshot and it's all about her. "Look at me. I can take from others and give it to you. Do you feel like a failure in life because someone else denied you? Keep voting me into office and I will get things for you from these bastards." Same with this lot that is set to take over the committees, they are cartoonish to me. Perhaps they do mean well, but the taint of anger, covetousness, vengeance and bitterness emanating from them is the overpowering essence IMO. I think this is what Rush means by the term, "GetEvenWith'em-ism".

It is ironic the Joe Lieberman is apparently set to become the most powerful man in the Senate. This will be interesting to watch. I always liked Joe.

They won't kill the Patriot Act...they will use it to get information on us conservative, God-fearing, gun-toting, heterosexual patriots. They will simply redefine the definition of what a terrorists is.

It is a sad day to see the death knell of the Republic, but I am thankful that my faith is built on something grander then the organizations of man....Jesus.

Don't give up hope, for God's strength is made perfect in our weakest times.

<> Equally frustrating is the religious voter who will not vote for a Republican because he is not 100% in alignment with their position on a moral issue-I’m sure you hear it as I have “well he makes exceptions on abortion” so I will not vote for him. Yes, I will agree that Conservative voters who think they will "teach the Republicans a lesson don't really understand the political process and the way the 3 branches of government work. One of the lessons are that under a Democratic Senate, Senator Schummer will head the judiciary committee and the best we can hope for is that Bush nominates a 96 year old liberal. Otherwise, the appointees will haunt us for 30 or 40 years-much like John Paul Stevens. And let’s not even think aboutht eappelate courts. Of course, if they hold both houses another “lesson” will be hold hearings on a variety of nut case issues and of course impeachment will be on the table. Oh and let's see Kennedy will get Health and Human services-there's another good lesson. I do not think they fully understand that in politics teaching a lesson only under cuts any future chance of success. As the late Jesse Unruh said, "money is the mother's milk of politics." and you can be sure that corporate contributions (never one to be concerned with values) will now start flowing to Democrats. So pray that by some miracle, the GOP pulls out one of the two seats left and then they still have control.

Be interesting to see if Joe uses his position as the 51'st D vote to his advantage.

I'm imagining he can blackmale his way into a LOT of things, and I have no doubt that he will. I doubt he'll ever need the D party for anything anymore. Even if he decides to run again, which I doubt, he'll probably just run as an 'I' again.

I wouldn't count Leiberman for the Dems quite so fast. There's a lot of hurt feelings over his Dem Senate friends supporting Ned Lamont.and Leiberman is a person with a very long memory. He will remember those who helped him get re-elected AND those that didn't.

It's in Lieberman's interest to be the swing vote. He can get a lot of out of being an Independent.

So, let me get this straight. The wise and wonderful American citizenry decided that to stop the Republicans from spending it is better to vote in the Democrats? Wow, we are just sooooo brilliant.

It's not just the spending, it's the ideology behind the policies behind the spending. Excerpt from Boortz:

"One thing is certain. The Republicans worked very hard for this defeat. They've earned every lost seat. The Republican majority that was sent packing yesterday bore little resemblance to the Republican majority that rode to power 12 years ago. In 1994 we were promised less government. Over the next 12 years the Republicans more than doubled the size of the government. We were promised control over runaway spending. In the last six years discretionary spending has doubled. We were promised fiscal responsibility. We got a bridge to nowhere in Alaska. We were promised the elimination of the Department of Education. After all, educational achievement had been on a steady decline since education was federalized under this Department. In no time at all the Republicans doubled funding for the Department of Education. In the meanwhile America continues to slip on the international scorecard of educational achievement.

The Republicans, in full control of the government, couldn't even manage to stop the Mexican invasion. How many Hispanics invaded our country across the Mexican / American border in the last 12 years? Twelve million? Twenty? Funny, but I don't remember pressing 1 for English in 1994."

The Congressional Republicans abandoned the conservative principles that brought them into power. I'm not going to abandon my conservative principles to keep them there.
The next closest party to hold similar beliefs to my own i.e., limited government, is the Libertarian party, so I am going there. I'm not abandoning the Republican party; they have abandoned me.

So you go ahead and vote out of fear. I'll continue vote my beliefs, come what may. At least I will have made a stand on principle.
