I thought it was awful. I thought the foul language and over the top violence covered up a lack of real character development, and the lack of a real story arch that would have resolved at least some of the issues that the characters faced.

Scorcese refuses to allow you to identify with any one chracter. There is little in the way of reflection or growth on the part of any chracter.

If you want to see a really excellent cop/undercover movie, see "Donnie Brasco", which is superb.

Donnie Brasco is indeed far superior. Probably the only movie in which Pacino doesn't have a big yelling scene.

I just returned from seeing it.

I thought it was a terrific movie.

Leonardo DiCaprio AND Jack Nicholson will get Oscar nods.

Anybody who thought this movie boring should take ritalin for ADD.

The ending was upsetting and surprising.

An hour later I'm still gripped and affected.

A great movie...two big thumbs up!

I really like The Departed, but can't fault you for disliking it. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

However, Thelma Schoonmaker is definitely a real editor. With 5 Oscar nominations and 2 wins it is hard to argue with her track record.
