My most accurate & fun to shoot handgun:
My favorite long gun for defense & shooting is:
The pistol I covet the most right now is the Para Ordnance Warthog in .45acp:
My current concealed carry piece [only mine is the tiatanium ultr light weight .38 +P version]:
[I wish my Taurus titanium .38 was the two-tone finish]
I had a Carter Arms Bulldog .44 special. I loved it. Mine was the blued finish and had the original 3" barrel [now the make them with 2.5 in. barrels]
How do you like your Para Hawg? I am coveting one myself.
Ooops!!! It's CHARTER ARMS, not Carter Arms.
Home defense: Handgun would be hammerless wheel gun (S&W Scandium personal preference). Additionally a Model 870 with 17 inch barrel and #4 shot.
My favorite concealed carry: Sig 239
Longgun: Personal favorite is a toss up. M1 or M14.
Are the Sigs worth the high price?
absolutely love it. you will find it surprisingly accurate for it's size as well. the capacity is low, but it's a positive trade-off in my opinion. besides, you shouldn't need more than one shot anyway.
The price is a definate shocker, but I still love the thing, it never leaves my side now. It's amazingly thin, and fits my hand really well.
Another suggestion too, I just got a shiny new Dan Wesson ( http://www.cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=66 ). If you get a chance, shoot one. This thing is impressive in quality, fit and accuracy.

The most accurate autoloader I've ever owned was a Sig 226 in 9mm. Totally reliable and more accurate than my series 70 Gold Cup. I could not get used to the DA/SA transition however, so I traded it for the G17 I have now. Wish I still had that one.

And price.
I love my 44, but the accuracy isn't the best. I practice with it all the time so I can shoot from the hip since I can't count of the sights.
Remington 30.06 semiauto
I sleep well at night.
My answer is yes, but I think it's very subjective.
Here's how I think of it FWIW:
(1) We're talking about saving lives here. I'm not going to spend a LOT of time thinking about whether I'm getting the best deal. "Doggone it, honey, I'm glad you're alive and the son of a bitch isn't, but it just frosts my butt that I could have gotten the same result, maybe, for $200 less."
(2) I want reliability and durability. I'm going to put about 800 rounds a month through my guns making sure the bullets go more or less where I intend them to. "You fight as you train," they say, and I try to train right much.
(3) Maybe most important to me: The sig p226 which was my duty gun for a while just felt right in my hand. The first time I saw one, I looked at a target, put my hand on the gun, closed my eyes, and pointed it at the target with my eyes closed. I opened my eyes and I was a little low but right in line. The sig p239 is a little lighter than my Cougar 8357, and is a single stack, but I, personally, and this is subjective, have WAY less perceived recoil with the p239. And it's a bunch easier to conceal.
To me that's worth a few hundred bucks.
If the Sig p226 impresses you that much, then I agree with the rest of your post wholeheartedly.
