Haggard accuser Michael Jones, according to today's Rocky Mountain News, timed his revelations in order to influence voters in Tuesday's election:
"Jones said he had thought about revealing his alleged affair with Haggard months ago but was advised by his attorney that he needed to gather more evidence. He said he decided to come out with his story before the election to influence voters."

Was Haggard running for anything? Influence voters on what? I am pretty much a politics junky but I had never heard of Haggard before today. No. No he wasn't...or...isn't.
I'm supposing that Michael Jones thought to influence what are called "evangelical Christians" whatever they are.
Apparently, as a group, they are considered lemmings by those such as Michael Jones. Still, it makes no sense.
I believe that he timed it to get maximum media play since the MSM would pay more attention to the outing of someone like Haggard right before an election.

Why would the fall of a religious huckster influence my vote?
To: Williams
Yes, I agree with that completely. Put faith in man you will ALWAYS be disappointed.
My point however was simply regarding the impact of the news. Falwell, Dobson, Graham are folks seen as greater spokesmen for Protestant Christianity than this Haggard fellow who most Christians have never heard of. It's the difference between the Pope getting caught in a scandal and a parish priest somewhere in California.

"Rove the magnificent has arranged for the Saddam death sentence verdict to be read on Sunday..."
Sure?
Any thoughts on how the media will play it?
--"Was this one man's death worth 3,000 Americans?"
--"Okay. Saddams downfall is good. But where are the WMD? Was it all worth 3,000 Americans?"

Haggard thought nothing of bashing and going after other faiths he did not like to make a buck!

Jones is an idiot. Because Haggard was the best mole the left could have inside the evangelical movement. He was a huge proponent of global warming and attempted in 2004 to pressure Bush into mandating limits on carbon emissions until folks like Dobson and Chuck Colson pressured him to back down.
The left did us a favor by disgracing a member who was already off the reservation policywise. One of the "What Would Jesus Drive" reverends is now history.

Good point. We can't control the MSM, but on the whole, I think its good for republicans to focus on hanging Saddam just before the election.

He lives in Denver, land of the liberal. Same place that arrests an illegal immigrant dealing heroine and allows him to plead to trespass to agricultural land so as to save him from deportation.

What is so funny is they want us all to accept homosexualism as a natural state of sexuality and then they always try to use it to ruin people. If it wasn't a perverted lifestyle it could never be used as a weapon. You could never blackmail anyone by threatening to tell everyone that they are sleeping with their opposite sex spouse.
I'll guarantee you that if Clinton had been having a fling with a 21 year old man that even the Dims would have wanted him impeached.

Good for you! I know you had your heart set on supporting him and you're willingness to disregard your personal feelings in the interest of the overall good is to be admired.

Wow, bring down a man, his family and his church because you disagree with his political views. I thought only dems did that.

True. And just because Haggard was against gay marriage does not make him a hypocrite. Why cannot he truly be against it and see the dangers of it for this country? He never proposed to the hooker nor had he shown interest in marrying another man.
As Bill O'Reilly and others have pointed out, once you pass same sex marriage, then plural marriages, underage marriages (legalizing pedophilia), etc. will follow.
The Russian experiment is case in point. Communist Party opposed marriage, did everything to weaken it and the family (along with other basic institutions), but then faced such serious problems that they were forced to going back to strengthening marriage and the family even though they hated doing it.

re: Jones thought to influence what are called "evangelical Christians"
I think it just goes to show how little the other side understands us. My heart and prayers go out to anyone who must contend with their own personal demons. I know of very few people who have not had personal problems and my take on this man's problems is "There, but for the grace of God, go I." As Jesus said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
The vast majority of Christians I know and have dealings with would hardly change their votes based on a story like this. They would probably just get together and say a prayer for the man and for those who are close to him.
I guess it makes us even though, I certainly don't understand their approach to life.

Sheep-stealing seems to be a theme in Christianity. I have a pretty firm belief that when Christ was talking about evangelizing, he probably wasn't meaning yanking Christians from one denomination to another.
That is one of the primary reasons I don't participate in most theo-threads. Once you know Christ, my job is done and your job as a follower of Christ starts.
