So far you have came to the best solution. I am at the point now to tell her to take it back. Right now I don't believe the DVD player is putting out a signal. She should of been able to get sound or a picture by now. It's not her fault.

That's what I was going to say. Perhaps hooking up the DVD player to a different TV might be a good way to check if it's a faulty DVD signal.
The hookups look good to me as well.

The darn TV should pop into Video 1 when she turns on the DVD player. She says she had it hooked up to something else and it worked fine. But yes... DVD players can go bad quickly. I've had a few that worked for only a couple of hours and had to be returned because they stopped working.
