Check out some of the child abuse witch-hunts of the 80s/90s. Absolutely chilling.

I can believe it. Someone somewhere either wanted to keep a job, write a master's thesis, or get revenge. There is no recourse once a person is labeled unjustly.

Indeed. It's a severe problem these days.

If there's ever a rebellion in this country, it will be something like this that gets it touched off.

There was an even worse case in Michigan, I think it was--a married woman got pregnant by her boyfriend who pressured her into accusing her husband of rape, which she did. There was zero evidence that any rape had occurred and the husband refused to admit guilt. The prosecutor was running for re-election and wanted to please the feminists. The man had no lawyer because he had resources which he couldn't touch because of a court order, but because he wasn't indigent he wasn't given a lawyer by the state. He received a long prison term which he is still serving. Phyllis Schlafly wrote a column about the case a few months ago...I remember reading about it on FR.

One of the worst travesties of justice I have heard about. With our legal system, that kind of thing can happen to anyone. At least the Duke lacrosse players haven't yet been sent to prison.
