Angelina Jolie is adopting an Indian baby to add to her growing international brood, according to US reports.
Sources say the big-hearted actress and partner Brad Pitt have already applied to adopt a tot from an Indian orphanage. An insider said: "They hope to be able to bring the child home by Christmas.
"Brad would prefer a boy no older than 18 months to even out the sexes but Angie has told him she can't guarantee she won't fall in love with a little girl."
The source told US magazine Globe: "Whichever they end up with, they'd like to name the child India to honour its homeland." The pair are rumoured to have visited the Priva Darshini orphanage in the last month.
Angelina's first child, five-year-old Maddox, was adopted from a Cambodian orphanage in 2002. And last year she adopted an Ethiopian baby girl - Zahara Marley Jolie - orphaned by AIDS, now 22-months-old.
She and actor Brad Pitt, 42, had a daughter together, baby Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, in May 2006. Angelina, 31, has declared that she'd like kiddies from all over the world.
She has said: "I want to create a rainbow family. That's children of different religions and cultures from different countries."
"I believe I'm meant to find my children in the world and not necessarily have them genetically."
Miss Jolie and Pitt have been virtually inseparable since the actor split from Friends star Jennifer Aniston in January last year.
They grew close after appearing in the film Mr and Mrs Smith.
After the birth of their daughter Pitt described fatherhood as the greatest thing he had ever done.
"It's a true joy and a very profound love," he said.
However it was said that the couple were in disagreement over whether they should adopt again, with Pitt wanting to concentrate on the children they have.
Miss Jolie is currently in India with Pitt filming her latest movie A Mighty Heart, about the murder of U.S journalist Daniel Pearl.
She has been pictured with her skin darkened with makeup and her hair tightly curled to resemble Mr Pearls mixed race wife Mariane.
However the role has angered race campaigners who say a genuine mixed race or black actress should have been given the part.
Mr Pearl, a 38-year-old reporter for The Wall Street Journal, was beheaded by Islamic fanatics.
Last night a spokeswoman for Miss Jolie was unavailable for comment over claims she is set to adopt another child.
I believe it was Miss Baker a carabet singer and dancer.
They're getting like a puppy factory! My concern besides the fact that there are so many kids in America who need homes (Oh but they aren't in the "rainbow" category sorry is that these kids are from such different cultures-white parents and the kid is black from some village thousands of miles away-many cultures away. How does this affect the kid? So the parents take the kid to Africa once a year and he sucks in his culture? It will be interesting to see how this affects the kid when he/she is older.
So are you against transracial adoptions? Or international adoptions? Many couples here, most who are nowhere near rich, are bypassing adopting older children in the U.S. to adopt babies in China, Korea, and other countries? Do you criticize them, too?
The "baby race" is on between Angelina and Madonna.
Interesting how no one adopts American children. Also, it's acceptable to adopt a black child from Africa but not a black child from America? With the adoption flurry in Hollywood, why is no one helping their own nation's children? That would be the more noble thing to do, in my opinion.
You have to jump through long and lengthy hoops to adopt through foster care here, with no guarantee that it will ever happen. Not everyone is willing to risk the pain that goes with "giving back" a child.
Besides, kids in foster care here generally get 3 square meals a day, have a roof over their heads, sleep in warm beds, and go to school. I'm not discounting how awful it must be not to have real parents, but at least they have a chance at a somewhat normal life.
Interesting post. I recently watched a program on the Discovery channel about Brazil and learned that over 40% of the slaves exported from Africa went to Brazil. Something like 6 or 7 times the amount that went to the U.S. Bahia was heavily settled by these slaves and much of the culture/religion still exists to this day. You certainly don't hear of the racism issues there that we have here.
The history of caipira was also very interesting. A martial art disguised as a dance.... It sure is amazing to watch.
Truly a country that is "abençoada de Deus".
Go to eBay "collectibles"
No. But I object to people being used as the right accessory when a handbag just isn't enough to get one-up on fellow celebs.
More wealthy liberal white guilt.
When I travel, I come back with souveniers. I guess the hot new thing is souvenier orphans. I can see them pointing them out individually at the parties they give, saying "Here is Buehmoemo, light shaded and found at the market in Angola - quite a find indeed!"
I just hope they don't start up with interplanetary travels anytime soon, the next child may be a grey.
You're joking, right? What's "more noble" about adopting a child who gets three square meals a day, goes to school, comes home to a warm bed, and if he works hard, has a future in this country? Kudos to people who are willing to put up with the foster care system long enough to adopt a child there, but I can assure you that they are no more noble than any other adoptive parent. Besides, most adoptive parents don't call themselves "noble." We're just "mom" and "dad."
Some of my kids were adopted internationally (and for those interested, they weren't infants), and their lot in life would have been starvation on the streets, or a life of prostitution and crime after they were made to leave the orphanage when they were fifteen or sixteen.
I would encourage all freepers to consider adoption, including single freepers. One parent is a HELL OF A LOT BETTER than no parent.
Second, even if the child was, it's completely wrong to call "prop adoptions" an unadulterated good. We should question the celebrities on this - it's horrifying to think that human beings are being used like Prada bags. Yes, it is better that they grow up with opportunities, but it doesn't make children being adopted in this way a right or even a good thing.
Regards, Ivan
How do I know this?
From observing someone else adopt, and thinking, "You know, we could do that! We have enough money. We have enough love in our hearts."
And now my (internationally) kids have parents and siblings who love them, a home, and a future.
