It was so obvious he used a substance in the 1st inning to juice the ball.

After he cleaned it off at the end of the 1st inning, his pitches weren't any good at all, which is why he got shelled the rest of the game.

Oh, wait -- he didn't get shelled the rest of the game? His pitching in the 2nd inning as just as devastating as the 1st inning when he had a "substance" on his hand?

How could that be?

He could have moved it to his cap, to his glove, under his arm, whatever. Not the first and won't be the last.

Not really too tough to figure this one out. Someone watching the telecast calls the dugout and lets them know Kenny's been busted. So, he moves the location of the stuff he's loading the ball with.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I just was a fan of Gaylord Perry many years ago, so I'm aware that loading the ball can be done in lots of creative ways.

Look at the video of him in the sixth and seventh innings. The camera crew were getting shots of the back of his hat. It looks like the same stuff.

Tim McCarver observed the Rogers took his glove into the clubhouse after the game and was shaking hands with his glove on. Who shakes hands with his glove on?

Listen to the audio clips. Why did Rogers' story keep changing? First he denied that the umpire talked to him about it. He said that he saw the "clump of dirt" himself and cleaned it off. Then later he says that the umpire told him to clean it off. Which is it?

I can't figure out why La Russa didn't ask for an inspection other than that the other manager is Jim Leyland. La Russa knew what was happening and didn't do anything about it. I think that if the other manager had been anybody else, if it had been Dusty Baker, for example, La Russa would have demanded an inspection in a flash.

Cordially,

Go back and watch it again and look at the brown spot that appeared on the top of his hat at the start of the 2nd inning - he continually rubbed his fingers on that spot for the rest of the game, which he didn't do in the first inning. The guy's a cheater.

One reason- maybe he found a place to hide it after the first inning? After all, during the first inning, he thought he was playing it smart, because he figured no one would accuse him of anything dirty, if the unknown substance was out in the open. No pitcher is that dumb to show it to the world. It almost worked.

A second reason- maybe Mister Rogers is just that good at pitching, that is why he pitched so well in the later innings, even with clean hands.

Hmmm? I suspect the second reason.
