One local supermarket offered DirectTV for a month or so and then closed the display. Doesn't do well at 64 north.

I have cable right now, mainly because with the high-speed cable internet service as a package it's cheaper than getting satellite plus DSL in my area.

However, I think DISH is better if you want HD content, but Directv is king if you like football. From what I hear NFL Sunday Ticket is $$$ EXPENSIVE but rocks. You can watch any game in any market you wish.

Why did the government have to mandate it? I'd think demand alone should have made that a reality.

I don't think they mandated it as much as making it available.

Look I'm not saying anyone is guilty, but the TV Nazi's wanted their own package and got one. You're not forced to buy it.

Uh.. they can de-activate that box for the months they are away, unless they are leasing the receiver.

Which also costs money, and there's a restart fee, and a "upgrade fee". There's all sorts of little fees, that it's just best to leave it alone.

That's the best way to compare the two. The "Sunday Ticket" is the biggest incentive that DTV has going for it right now, especially for football junkies that can't get enough football on Sunday.

DISH gets complaints from it's customers wishing DISH offered The Sunday Ticket, but many of them don't realize that DTV paid big money to monopolize it. Charlie Ergen would LOVE to offer The Sunday Ticket to his customers that want it. I've heard it said that next to the local networks, sports packages are the most popular packages for both DTV and DISH. When DISH customers find out that they can't get the NFL Sunday Ticket, they dump DISH and go to DTV.

At least on DirecTV, I was able to activate and deactivate receivers with no fees. Don't know about DISH.

DISH has what they call a $25.00 "restart fee". So if you forget to pay your bill or decide to shut your receiver off for a certain amount of time, you end up getting socked with that fee.

Thanks for your help on this.

They installed the DISH today and as soon as they left my daughter used the old remote to change channels and it took me one heck of a time to fix it. Not sure what I did but it is up and running again.

Good, clear picture as well.

I've had my DISH system for anout three years now, hsmomx3:

Very pleased with it!

Cheaper, better selection of channels. Superb around the clock Tech Support.

I live in Maryland and get junk mail from ComCast (The local Cable Momopoly here) every day, which goes immediately in the trash.

Jack.
