Unbelievable Eric Clapton show last night in Jax, FL (Vanity)
Florida Times Union ^ | 22 Oct 06 | stm

Well worth the 6 hour drive to Jax. Cray played for about a half hour and Clapton played for about 2 hrs and 15 min. $300 for two tickets was well worth it, we were in the center about 20 rows back.

Here's the FTU article on the show.

Keith on the other hand.....is an ad for dead.

Actually I think Richards died 10 years ago but no one bothered to tell him.

"People will go to great lengths to get master craftsman Wayne Henderson to build them an instrument. If you're an award-winning journalist like St. John and you want to expedite the process, you write a book about Henderson that's equal parts travelogue, biography and ode to the old-fashioned trade of making top-notch guitars. Upon learning that Eric Clapton has been on Henderson's waiting list for 10 years, [!!] St. John sets out to learn about the little-known man behind the instruments every guitarist knows. He visits Henderson's Virginia home, shadowing the artist while he builds guitars, plays "old time music" concerts and doesn't build Clapton's guitar. Along the way, he finds answers to questions such as which is the best wood for guitar making (Brazilian rosewood) and how much the 1939 Martin guitar Clapton played on Unplugged was auctioned for ($700,000). When St. John finally helps cajole Henderson into building two guitars for Clapton (one to be auctioned for charity), Henderson's and St. John's expertise shine through. St. John's descriptions of Henderson choosing wood, making a dovetail neck joint or whittling bracings for the guitar-top are as detailed, refined and playful as the instruments Henderson creates.

And I thought my Ovation 6 and 12 string guitars cost a bundle!

I think EC looks great too. Maybe he's been sober longer than Keith?

In case anyone's interested, he plays in Miami tonight & looks like that's it for the US for a while. He's off to Japan in a couple of weeks & then Down Under. His next scheduled US concert is at Auburn Hills MI in early April.(EPC's schedule courtesy of Pollstar)

stm: "Blackie" (Clapton's late 50s Stratocaster) still looks in fine shape as well.

WireAndWood: Blackie has been unplayable for quite some time now, and was sold at auction many moons ago

IIRC, "Blackie" was/is a jigsaw puzzle of a guitar composed of various components from other 50's and 60's Strats. Eric 'retired' Blackie quite some time ago due to its neck dimensions being worn away to a frazzle .... Blackie became too fragile and was rendered 'unplayable' (at least for Eric to use onstage). Several years ago Blackie was auctioned off and fetched nearly $1 million to one happy collector! (twasn't me, but I can dream :)

I saw the Clapper twice in my life, 1974 and 1975 (his 'comeback' tours as it were) .... would've gone to see the Cream reunion last year, but Paul McCartney was right around the same time and had to fork out big $$$ for that ... would've gone to see Clapton this year, but The Who were around the same time and had to fork out big $$$ for them too ....

How come these expensive rockers always come around at the same time nowadays ??? There is only so much $$$ for the average music fan to spend on these concert tours, even though we might be considered rich Republicans ... LOL

The last time I paid
to see a performer was
Rufus Wainwright's dad . . .

It was a great show,
and I had enough money
left over for snacks!
