In years past (As in years and years ago) Fred was funny. Kind of bizarre, corny, outlandish, outspoken, and overt. He was humorous in plainly saying things that were obtuse.
Then he got on this junket where he absorbs and echoes everything anti-Bush, anti-republican and anti-American, in the same scurrilous expression, but the humor is gone.
He gets a little space for what he once was.
Sounds like Fred went off his meds! ;)
