Not to mention that Moss might be able to catch his passes.

Moss has "Go-Go-Gadget arms?

Yup. There's running for a first down and then there's the ability to avoid the sack. They're not necessarily the same thing.

It didn't seem like that Super Bowl appearance did much to grow the fan base. Of course the fact that the team fell apart after that didn't help.

Yeah what he wants to do could very well wind up knocking Palmer out for the rest of the season.

"If the Falcoons think Vick is the answer, they obviously do not understand the question."

I am not a huge fan of Vick but he tenure with the team has been one of the most successful in the history of the team.

McNabb is a much better passer at this point but he still isn't all that accurate. What makes him a top five QB (I will agree with you there) is that he is able to keep drives alive by avoiding sacks and running for crucial first downs.

With all due respect, Jeff, you haven't been watching much of McNabb this year. He hasn't run for very many first downs this year. He's been rushing less & less each of the last 3 seasons (sometimes to the detriment of the team in certain down & distance situations).

BTW, McNabb's most difficult pass is rolling to his right & throwing to the receiver in the flat. If I had a $1 for every time he bounced that easy pass off the turf... OTOH, he does have a gun when he needs to jam one between defenders.

Even more than Bartkowski?

Yep. Seems the only thing that increased for the Falcons was a bigger attendance in the Georgia Dome than they used to bring in at Fulton County Stadium.

Football in the South is a religion where fans used to dress up more for Friday and Saturday football than they did for church. (I know one woman who made her daughter break up with her boyfriend because he didn't wear a coat and tie to a "Bama football game.) Nearly half the AM radio stations used to carry Falcon games. Only times Fulton County had less than 50% of its seats filled were the inevitable November-December cloudbursts that would turn the field, which always had problems growing grass, into a red clay soup. (And people wondered about the need for a dome in Atlanta.)

Vick has sold a lot of jerseys and season tickets, but it is only a matter of time before deer hunting, fishing and golf with TiVoed games, where losses can be quickly deleted, become more attractive than even a dry Georgia Dome.

It's hard for a team to develop a loyal fan base without at least one era of consistent success. The Patriots went back and forth between good and terrible teams until they finally found their footing in the 90's.

Agreed. The team has been more successful than in the past. However, there is not much of a comparison to the woeful Falcons of pre-Vick.

Falcons have a history of brittle QB's, Bartkowski and "Crystal" Chandler. Vick will one day soon no longer be capable of running out of trouble. How banged up will he be, will he accomplish something before that inevitable day dawns?

Even bigger question, will Vick mature into an NFL quarterback that has an arm more prized than his legs?

The threat is still there. Are you saying that McNabb is a pure drop back passer like Peyton Manning and Dan Marino?

Take away McNabb's threat to run (like last year) and he would be out of the league in two years max.

Yeah, even then. The Falcons have never had back to back winning seasons - last year they came close but finished 8-8.

The Falcons have been to the NFC championship game with Vick which they had done only once before. That is the problem though, Vick is regressing as a QB rather than progressing.

Yeah that is certainly a problem with the Falcons. It is easy for a team to have a big fan base when the teams are winning but the Falcons have never done that consistantly and really have only had 2 or 3 stretches here and there.

Hopefully with the new ownership and a solid GM that will change as the Falcons have been pretty good 4 out of the last 6 years.

Vick does this every year it seems. It's all about him! This is why a lot of Atlanta fans have soured on him, his arrogant all-about-me, I'm the greatest, I have lousy coaches and teammates, big mouth.

"It's the worst I ever felt," Vick told Carter.

I wonder if he was distracted my another - ahem - hobby...
