As sad as it is that this advice is necessary and legitimate, young women should be *very* wary of men that they meet at 2AM. That goes for big cities, small towns and everywhere in between. It needs to be said - there are innocent young people who think if they don't believe in evil, that evil won't see them... They are wrong. And they need to be warned.

I would guess, however, that Vermont doesn't have the death penalty. Well after this much time it wouldn't necessarily be clear WHERE he killed her (unless they find blod or such in Vermont). He could still be prosecuted in Virginia.

So many missing and murdered girls lately it's like someone put up posters that say " Hunting Season for Girls".

I've got two in college...boy and girl. I worry so much and just pray that all my warnings "took". These stories make me physically ill.

I hear you. I have one away at school also and cringe every time I hear about these stories. She was such a beautiful girl. My heart goes out to her parents.

I was in Burlington on vacation that night. The town was full of students and their parents out having a good time as it was UVM's Parent's Weekend. The stretch of Main Street where she was walking from the downtown to the campus was bright and well-traveled. She must have got into somebody's car or went to somebody's house.
This is terrible news and I hope they find and punish the perpetrator quickly.

My prayers for her loved ones.
Sorry for sounding gross, but I hope they didn't find her beheaded. If they did, we may be real trouble. Every woman should carry a gun and know how to use it.

Students, particularly female, need to get it though their heads that they are not necessarily safe in their little college towns. It needs to be repeated endlessly that you should not move about alone. If you see a friend of yours leaving with someone unknown to you -- stop them and ask questions.
My deepest sympathy to the family of this young woman.

People in Vermont have a real low fear of crime. I was just there and I heard more than once in regards to locking doors, "this is Vermont." I also saw a newspaper headline that said they were considering locking the school.

I'm with you. Mine is living at home and I still worry about her. She has night classes and a 30-40 minutes drive. I have her call when she leaves school. It used to be "aw Mom." Now it's just a resigned "ok" to keep the mama happy.

Prayers for Michelle and her family & prayers that this killer be found ASAP. All women need to be very careful when they decide to walk anywhere anymore it seems.

Maybe it would be a good idea for the colleges and universities to adopt the "buddy" system. Whenever a student is going out, have someone with you, but do not go out alone.
May God bless and comfort her parents.
