UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- A youth league baseball coach convicted of getting one of his players to injure a teammate was sentenced to one to six years in prison today.
Fayette County Judge Ralph Warman said the actions by Mark Downs Jr., of Dunbar, in June 2005 were "outrageous" and "extremely reprehensible" because he was coaching a league of children 7 to 9 years old.
Testimony indicated Mr. Downs promised $25 to one of his best players if he hurled a ball at Harry Bowers Jr., 11, an autistic and mildly retarded teammate, presumably to keep him from playing in a game.
A jury convicted Mr. Downs last month of corruption of minors and conspiracy to commit simple assault.
Judge Warman sentenced him to six months to three years on each count

Vision says open season on kids!! Can I use my bat too?
Not really.
I dunno if the kid was instructed to hit him in the head, but how good is an 8 year old's aim?
Have you seen how t-ballers throw? Could'nt hurt a fly. But could put a cry-baby on the bench (what I suspect was the coaches plan).
I'm fairly confident that at 8 years old I coulda done some damage to another 8 year old's skull.
Rejecting battery on a young boy does not make one a nanny stater.
Hell, I don't think kids should have to wear bike helmets and find rules against running up the score in sports insane.
But this is a case where an alleged adult bribed a little kid to hurt another little kid.
I'm not going to lower myself to your level anymore.
Meanwhile, you are still losing the argument, you've been owned on this thread, and it's clear that you condone people corrupting Minors and intentionally injuring kids.
Way to go.....
Not going to work loser.
That's your only response, therefore, I've WON.
Ha ha ha ha ha hah.
Jury forewoman Michele Lynn, 28, a medical office manager, said the jury believed that Downs told his player to harm his teammate, but they didn't believe his injuries were serious enough to warrant the aggravated assault and reckless endangerment charges.
Interestingly enough, in this article:
The maximum sentence for the Downs' crimes is five years in prison, but under Pennsylvania sentencing guidelines he likely faces only probation when he's sentenced Oct. 12 because he is not known to have a criminal record. [District Attorney Nancy] Vernon said she will not argue for a particular sentence, leaving the matter entirely to the judge's discretion.Source.
LOLOLOL! Your screaming, calling me a freak, and dunce picture say otherwise.
LOL
keep proving me right.
You do it with each subsequent post.
LOL
How many times are you planning to post that pic? It wasn't all that amusing the first time.
hey SV, could you post that to toddster and 1rudeboy so that we can ALL be dunces?
LOL
I do know that here in CA, if you even snatch something from someone's hand and they got hurt, it is considered assault.
Forgot to add that I pretty much figured he wouldn't serve the whole 6 years. I didn't think he'd only get probation, if that's what it ends up being.
