College Football Week Seven
Week Six brought the first major upset of the year down on the plains in Auburn. Arkansas went in and physically dominated Auburn for 4 quarters en route to a shocking 27-10 victory over the Tigers. Florida followed that up by winning rather easily against LSU at the Swamp. The Buckeyes and Michigan held serve, while West Virginia had another easy game. USC was pushed again by the Huskies of Washington. This week features what was looking to be the game of the year in the SEC only last Friday night. Florida leaves the friendly confines of the Swamp to visit Auburn.

Generally the home team is given a 3 to 3.5 point advantage when the lines are put out. Given that Auburn is a home underdog by 2 points (meaning to cover the spread the Gators need to win by more than 2 points), the odds makers think that Florida is around 5 points better than Auburn. Seeing as Auburn was absolutely dominated last Saturday by Arkansas, Id say that is a pretty good bet. One development to be aware of college football fans, Auburn was missing one of their better linebackers for the Arkansas game. His return will allow Auburn to put their best defensive lineup in the game against Chris Leak and Tim Tebow. The key is the continued good play of the Florida quarterbacks. If they continue to play mostly error free, the Gators will win easily. Being that this game is at night, at Auburn, with Auburns season hanging in the balance, expect the Tigers to play hard. Can Florida stand up to being #2 in the nation? We will see. Whats for sure is that this is a classic trap game for Florida.

Missouri is on a roll. They finally beat someone of note last weekend. Texas A&M was 3 bad play calls by Bobby Ross away from being upset by Army. With another heartbreaking loss against Texas Tech, they came out listless against a mediocre Kansas team. Missouri is looking at a showdown with Nebraska coming up, but they shouldnt overlook Texas A&M.

Overall:
It wasnt a good week for the home team. My picks werent the best and even my normally reliable straight up picks were bad (14-7).
102-21 Straight UP
69-51-3 Against the Spread
I'm going to the A&M game. With my son a senior there, I think it's high time I made my first (and probably last) visit to Kyle Field.
It's one of the fields I want to get to.
The triple decker stadium, the field and the traditions the Corps of Cadets have there are something to behold
I understand it's loud. My wife and I aren't sitting with my son, because the students stand up the entire game. I don't know why they even installed seats on that side of the field.
Apparently the new Jumbotron screen they put on one end of the field is something to behold.
I'm looking forward to the game. Missouri is slightly favored, but this A&M team isn't predictable. Very inconsistent. Big game for them. Should give a good predictor for the rest of the season.
The Auburn game is our season, if we win, it's clear sailing to the SEC Championship game, and an NC shot.
yeah...
it's not as big as they one they put in there at UT, but it's huge none the less....
I JUST missed out on OSU tickets for the Minny game in a couple weeks. Darn :)
Did you hear them chanting "Fire Mason" during the Penn State game?
well it's clear sailing to the SEC Championship game at least.
Don't get ahead of yourself :)
Why is this a trap game for UF? Auburn beat LSU and UF is on the road. Trap games would be games like UAR at AU when AU might be looking ahead to UF.
Florida's Strength of Schedule has taken a hit with Georgia and Auburn losing, and FSU sucking this year.
That could hurt us if USC and the winner of Michigan/Ohio State both go unbeaten.
Mike,
You know that I'm the biggest New Mexico homer around, but after their last 2 games I don't think they can get back in the race for a conference title. The Lobos are terrible on offense this season. They have a new system, their no 1 QB is out for the season, and they are going to start a Freshman at QB Saturday. It ain't looking good in Lobo land. You might want to put a land mine next to this one also.
I don't think last week's game has changed UF's opinion of Auburn. If anything, it makes them even more dangerous.
It boils down to can UF stop Auburn's running game. If we do that, I think UF squeaks out a win in a close, low-scoing game.
I think we'll destroy Georgia, though.
I am encouraged that Meyer has a good road win under his belt this year. But it is his only one at UF. So there is reason for concern.
I am not ready to look at UGa yet. It depends on who UF has at QB playing what snaps. If we waste snaps at QB with a guy who can not play, we keep opponents in games.
I have no idea, but a UT guy at the office told me that their screen is one inch bigger.
It's a Texas rivalry thing, obviously. A&M should never have branded UT's longhorn 13-0, which required UT to rebrand the dumb cow BEVO.
It's gone downhill ever since.
So you're predicting the closest game to date for OSU, and the highest scoring for an OSU opponent all season (tied with Iowa)?
What impresses me the most about this year's team, is the ability to make adjustments (something that NEVER happened during the Zook-era), and the ability to overcome bad starts, we've trailed in every conference game this year. And we need DeShawn Wynn back in the worst way for Auburn.
But my fear is that our woeful placekicking is going to get us killed, we haven't made a FG all year.
No, I didn't see that one. I'll be paying more attention now since the Twins season is over.
