I'm not a big fan of the foreign press (found this on Yahoo news) but this is a decent article that isn't afraid to outline the leftist ties to open source software, which is rarely discussed by the U.S. media.

Because its such a silly link. Does this mean that me running Linux equates with espousing communism? Does this also means that the success of some open source software means communism can suceed?

These questions don't deserve to be answer for they are dumb.

Of course saying Communist countries - especially ones where there are export restrictions to, embracing a freely available technology that can be examined to see whether there are any "spy bugs" is natural. If you were leader of some country that feared bugs in closed source software shipped to your country - would you pick one you could verify was 'spy' free?

I ran across Linus in 90 or 91 and saw that what he was working on was very valuable. Suffice to say the Linux has been very very good to me.

Free Republic uses Linux, ergo, Linux is irrevocably linked with the Conservative movement in the U.S.

Hey, it's the same logic you're using, right?

Open source is a good check on the artificial influence of monopolization (which is antithetical to the free enterprise system). Good for Linux.

It must be hard to run those clusters without electricity.

North Korea might now have The Bomb, but it doesn't have much electricity

The cruel fact is operating systems are a mature product and 3rd world nations can do perfectly fine with Linux. I stick with Windows XP but they just need computers that work. Not the latest eye candy (Vista) or cleartype (XP) which I'm a big fan of

This is just so stupid. If people want to give away their work, good for them. That is their choice.
