While they are trying to set this in contemporary times as far as dialogue and the like, at the same time keeping some things vague (as in they could apply to many periods throughout history), after having seen the episode again, it does seem as if they are going more for a Nazi Germany/France/Holland type of thing.
Remember how the collaborators were treated after France was freed...those who were allowed to live were shaved, etc., and basically treated as outcasts.

Maybe they weren't executed. Maybe the Galattica got there and took out the toasters. Maybe Gaita will let people know he had a gun to his head.
It might not be this season for Baltar but I'm still holding out hope.
