Hastert should immediately announce that he is resigning, and that his resignation will be effective upon the naming of a successor.
1. He has already been Speaker longer than any other Republican (or is it Republican in the last 100 years; anyway you get the point). And he is unlikely to be Speaker in the next Congress, even if Republicans hold the majority.
2. He can't responsibly leave a vacancy in an office that is third in line for the Presidency.
3. He should refuse to answer any questions about when he will schedule a leadership election. He can always say I won't resign until after the House has dealt with this (insert names of critically important legislation here).
Why?
No.
No!!
Hell no.
I agree he should leave though he's done an excellent job.
An excellent job.
New blood and all that.
But it should happen at the normal time: the organization of the House at the start of the next session.
NUTS!
If he resigns that will become the big story and the RATS will say there was a cover-up. His resignation would imply that he's done something wrong. I think he should stay and stand up to these sleazy, low life loser RATS.
That's just the cowardly way out the left would like to see him take. That's why they keep flogging the issue. Wake up!
Then and now, short and to the point.
DimocRAT Speakers served much longer and were able to wield the axe against errant House members (which we could use for a change instead of "eating our own."
Find another reason to run Hastert off not join the dimocRATs in their tarring and feathering of our Party leaders. Hastert was chosen because the House members wanted him.
I like the part about Boehner debating Bela about the direction of Congress.
It would be better for the GOP if you retired from blogging.
If he retired, a democratic governor would get the chance to appoint a democrat to his seat, wouldnt he?
