Syracuse?
You're right, the article I referenced omitted them for some reason, they won football in 1959.
It's a fun trivia question. PS - Good luck to Florida the rest of the season.
Florida has some tough games ahead, this will be an interesting second half of the season to say the least. If they win out, I would vote for them for strength of schedule, cause the SEC is just so stacked up.
Looking at the teams, you've got to bet on one of the big two of the Big Ten (right now, I think Michigan is the best team of the two because of the chip on their shoulder, but by no means a lock). Gotta be USC over W VA/Louisville by strength of schedule.
Unless Fla wins out...........then we got ourselves a mess.
Yes it would. I saw a blurb about that a week or two ago during some game or other. They said that no team had won NCAA titles in football and basketball in the same year.
The Razorbacks but a major butt-whipping on Auburn. They have a good shot at the SEC Championship. Their last two games have shown great defense, tremendous running attack and terrific coaching. They may be a little undermanned but are playing great.
Absolutely agree Scott - even with the Gators handing LSU's butts to them today. There will of course be those who disagree but SEC football makes for intense exciting football.
And thanks CFC for the heads up on the Tennessee/Georgia game. I got to watch some of it while non-fan company was here and when the Volunteers got jump-started - I just stood up and excused myself for a bit. :o)
You're right...I lazily misread dfwgator's original question. My apologies. You're right... UCLA would have a good shot at that in the 60's. I'd look it up, but I need to go practice my post reading skills :o).
That was a great game, wasn't it?
This is the first Saturday in a long time that I've been able to just sit in front of the TV and watch football all day. Glad there were so many really good games.
It was uncalled for.
I just finished watching the game on TiVo and those saying the victory of SC is somehow tainted do not know what they are talking about. Plus is there not a rule against the coaches being on the field? Wllingham and an assistant were almost to the hash marks w/ no call made.
Washington played great, SC was so-so, so WU still lost.
I'd swap Florida an WVU on the list.
Another gyp was USC in '70 (I think) they lost only two games, both to UCLA. But they did not qualify for the NCAA tourney because of the rules in place at the time.
you were right and it made all the difference.
Wake should've won that game :)
