The ONLY reason they had that press conference on Friday afternoon/night was because Nifong got those results sometime earlier in the week and only faxed them to the defense at 5 till 5 Friday afternoon!
They weren't about to let that leak out over the weekend without being refuted.
And I'm one of them.
Want to go?
The N&O Does Nifong
The statement that he has never spoken to Crystal about the case was what stood out for me. If I was a Durhamite, I'd have to be saying, "WTF?" How much money has this case cost the city/county so far? And he hasn't even spoken to the accused about the case??? Hello! People of Durham! Wake up!!
I forgot to say: This solidifies as fact, for me, that he pursued this case STRICTLY for personal gain (read: positive election results). At one point in time, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I thought it possible that, at the outset, he did truly believe a rape occurred. But now, there is not even the smallest possibility that this was the case, IMO.
I'd buy a ticket to watch him crash & burn. If he ends up doing the perp walk I plan to have the picture blown up, framed & on my living room wall. I know that sounds awful but I'm just being honest.
What!?! He has never heard her tell her story? All this crap about Nifong listening to her story and looking in her eyes and believing her is revealed as.......crap!
What kind of DA wouldn't want to hear the accuser tell her story? It's the most important info in the entire prosecution case. You should always interview your primary witness - especially before you decide to file charges!!
Nifong seems to be operating under the "ignorance is bliss" theory. He's totally ignorant of his own "evidence". No wonder he doesn't want to respond to the Bill of Particulars - he hasn't decided what happened yet.
This is such blatant misconduct and yet no one will stop it. If Nifong isn't brought up on charges I will lose all faith in the criminal justice system.
exactly what I was thinking. I also remember all the former prosecutors and LE saying the same thing...but, from what we've seen so far, there will be plenty around who won't care, just as long as a rich white kid goes to jail, they will probably even praise him for it.
That doesn't sound awful. Nifong has earned everyone's contempt. He is a new low for the legal profession. I'm a law student and he's a total embarrassment. If he is ever perp walked in handcuffs (and I pray to God he is) I will TIVO it and watch it over and over. And laugh.
This about a guy who leads the DAs office in dropped cases?

Yet people send their children to Duke? People fail to withdraw their children from Duke today.
Thanks.
What a dangerous man.
I've said all along that Nifong sounds like he doesn't know anything about his own case....
This erases any doubt I had about the case.
It's going to trial and the players are likely to be convicted.
No one in power has shown any sign of opposing Nifong at all.
If this revelation doesn't end the case, then nothing is going to.
LTC,
When the woman had made a previous gang-rape claim, by THREE men, beaten and kicked and gang-raped for a continuing time while being held against her will -- > that's when I knew nothing was going to make Nifong stop. Without considering those reports or claiming to have read the Police reports from that Gang-Rape, Nifong relexively said that it WASN'T RELEVANT. He totally dismissed it without further investigation. I knew then.
Later, the No anal injuries, etc. was huge, but Nifong broadcast for everyone to see back then about the previous rape allegation - that he wasn't interested in evidence or gathering information. Sorta like telling the Defense attorneys that he wasn't interested in evidence that one or more of the suspects where some place else when the woman claimed she was being horrifically assaulted.

Dear Sir:
It has been alleged that on Saturday, September 30, 2006, Duke University officials forcibly prevented on campus voter registration efforts at the universitys football game.
Duke Students for an Ethical Durham (http://www.ethicaldurham.com/) is a student organization whose mission statement reads in part,
seeks to encourage students to fulfill their civic obligation to register and vote in Durham County. They attempted to fulfill that mission at a university football game. Reportedly, they went through channels and obtained permission from university officials in accordance with university rules. As they gathered prior to the game to pick up their forms, they were confronted by officials and prevented from accomplishing any voter registration.
On its face, this action by Duke University officials would seem to be a violation of the federal Higher Education Act, which encourages campus voter registration.
This letter shall serve as a formal complaint to you and a charge to investigate said allegation. I look forward to a prompt response, as registration deadline is October 13, 2006.
Sincerely,
Cc: President Richard H. Brodhead

Great work! Let's let those drones in the government know that there is a public out here, and that it expects some action.
Outstanding work, abb.
