Deputy fire Chief Steve Clyatt said blaze appears to have been caused by a bad extension cord on a window air conditioner. Further investigation revealed that the cord had been chewed by the pit bull. Clyatt speculates the dog was trying to set up a scene to make himself look like a hero. Look how the news account desperately tries to paint the dog in a less than flattering light:
