I don't think it's Lyme's either. He gets it on the bottom of his feet. Wouldn't Lyme's cause fever?

Shingles? Shingles are caused by a herpes virus similar to chicken pox.

Not necessarly. Late stage Lyme causes a whole host of problems neurological to arthritis. Lyme is extremely difficult to diagnose.
