Who, if not the leftist geeks, would be wooed by a Linux reference?

Dean's money came from the general population of people online

Dean's money came from people like the nice folks at DU or Daily Kos.

The word "ubuntu" in Zulu means "humanity towards others." Mark Shuttleworth, a South African, picked it as the name of his Linux distribution. Clinton used "ubuntu" in the local language to make a connection with the humanity towards others that his foundation supposedly stands for.

It's like I said earlier, if Clinton said "We have a new vista ahead of us" in some blathering about the future his foundation will supposedly create, you wouldn't be thinking he's promoting Windows, would you?

The writer of the article makes it out as a Linux reference. That's the basis of my comments.

"Ubuntu"

Which is, of course, a well-known racial slur in Swahili. And as the first black president, it is clear that he picked this up in his childhood and has been using such foreign-language slurs regularly.

Oh, come on, we all know it's a racial slur.

Yeah, not geeks, but AOLer types, regular WWW users who likely thought IE == WWW and Windows == computer.

The writer's either an idiot or making a joke. The article he got the news from says nothing about a Linux connection.

It's not defensive, I just don't like falsehoods flying around.

I don't care if Clinton is a Linux geek himself. Who uses software has nothing to do with the software itself. Planned Parenthood is running Microsoft's IIS, does that make Windows for abortion? Of course not (that's a different subject than BillG's donations to them). DoD runs Linux, but that doesn't make Linux war-like either.

He is defensive, because his position is a total fraud. Check out one of his very first posts to this board, which he titled "Democrats ahead of Republicans on Open Source?":

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1016247/posts

That wasn't the title of the article, it's one he made up because it glorified Democrats as being so much smarter than Republicans, and is obviously relevant to this discussion as his own words clearly tied Democrats to open source software like Linux. His denials now are simply comical, and shameful.

I see that you're really not interested in discussing what I've actually said. You'd rather make a defense about things that I did not say. That's fine ... but leave me out of it.

I think he meant to say "Ubangi?" but it came out as "Ubuntu?".

^^^^^^^^^The ties between Linux and leftists are deep^^^^^^^^^^^

I expect you to shut down your computer, take it out front and run it over with your vehicle, then burn it.

The ties between Microsoft and leftists are deep.
The ties between Apple and leftists are deep.

Don't act like you didn't know that Steve Jobs is a flaming liberal. Don't act like you didn't know the same about Gates.

You knowingly use leftist software? Eagle, you're a hypocrit.

Knowing Their Politics by the Software They Use

In a campaign season of polarization, when Republicans and Democrats seem far apart on issues like Iraq, the economy and leadership style, it is perhaps not surprising that the parties find themselves on different sides in the politics of software as well.

The Web sites of Senator John Kerry and the Democratic National Committee run mainly on the technology of the computing counterculture: open-source software that is distributed free, and improved and debugged by far-flung networks of programmers.

In the other corner, the Web sites of President Bush and the Republican National Committee run on software supplied by the corporate embodiment of big business - Microsoft...

Democrats Tap Open Source

The DNC has embraced open source to run its online operation, including outreach and fund raising, and has been working on this front since 2001 with New York-based consultant Plus Three LP.

This week, the DNC will launch, at www.democrats.org, the third version of its Web site, which is designed to mobilize voters on a national and grass-roots level, grow the party's online database, and raise funds, said David Brunton, Plus Three's vice president and co-founder.

Plus Three's Arcos technology, a business application suite based on the open-source LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl) platform, lies at the core of the Democrats' online technology infrastructure, dubbed Demzilla by the DNC.

I'm aware of all that. I honestly don't care. Linux works best for not just me but also my family.

It gets tiring having to constantly stay ahead of the malware curve. Yes, I'm extremely good at removing malware by hand. It's irrelevant. I shouldn't have to do that.

I don't have to do that. Now I use linux. Mine and my family's computers keep working normally. The only thing that will change that is PEBKAC or hardware failure.

Not only that, but I only own one legal copy of windows. In order to gift computers to my family members to enhance their lives, a choice needed to be made. I became a winner in every single way.
