In the '80's, a few friends and I always went to the Final 4. The only time we had tickets was for the Superdome in '86, I believe. Much to our chagrin, our tickets for the Sat. games were in the second to last row, which I believe placed us in North Dakota. The court was nowhere to be seen. But we did sit on the first level with the Indiana fans for the final which came down to a last second win by Indiana.

I was thinking of writing MNF to complain about having the odious liar Spike Lee on to spread his falsehoods.

I am also a Saints fan until they play the Bears but this was disgusting.

Tagliabeau made a big commitment to the NFL helping NO rebuild. From not letting Benson move the team (he had a "closed for disaster" out in his lease contract for the Superdome), to the fund raiser, to giving the city a bunch of money to fix up the Superdome, to announcing this years schedule at the Superdome, to deliberately putting the Saints home opening on primetime where it would get exclusive coverage. In essence Paul decided that last night indeed would be Monday Night Tourist Ads for New Orleans. The last few years there's always been a certain level of tourist advertising associated with MNF (the always have shots of semi-famous eateries in the host city and tourist attractions), they just amped it up a little higher than normal last night.

I was troubled by the fact that the damn Superdome was rebuilt from FEMA! (According to racist malcontent Spike-d Lee, "people" all over the country [read: Bush, FEMA] didn't do enough!)

GD sports !$#!#. Every GD time, it's (major) SPORTS, SPORTS, SPORTS that gets the money and attention regardless of where it comes from.

People's priorities are majorly screwed up. So GD worried about having a freakin' football team, they don't even bother rebuilding houses, in favor of GD sports! >:( I'm sick of people who act like it's so vastly important. We wonder why we're down the toilet and why it's so easy for Moslems to kill us?

First off, I rooted for the Saints. I like their team, and they are a classic "underdog" story. I hope they win every game until they lose to my Cowboys in the NFC Championship.

Sean Payton is just getting his feet wet as a head coach before he takes over in Dallas when Parcells leaves.

I'm sick of all the pre-game and halftime concerts the NFL now has at their games, it's almost enough to wish they would bring back "Up With People!"

but I found that abysmal group Green Day playing some horrid song.

They're from freakin' San Francisco, U2 is from Ireland, Spike Lee is from Brooklyn.

What the Hell do they have to do with New Orleans?

They could have had more of the local acts, like the Neville Brothers, or Doctor John, etc.

Beats me... I TiVo'd the game (and only watched the first half) since I wouldn't be able to see it at its start time, and fast-forwarded over all of the maudlin junk that had nothing to do with the Saints/Falcons game. I did watch during the Spike Lee booth interview, but had the sound muted.

Agree with your general comment. I'm sick of them making giant sideshows (which is of course what they are using) out of every game. Why not just the football for a change?

Next year, they ought to bring Madden and Michaels back to MNF.

Madden and Michaels are doing Sunday nights for NBC.

Tirico and Theismann aren't so bad (Theismann's been doing ESPN's national broadcast since at least '88 -- he may obnoxious, but at least he generally knows what he's talking about), but Kornheiser is doing a bad Dennis Miller impersonation. (And let's face it, the original Dennis Miller was an embarassment on the MNF broadcast.)

I still don't see why they think they need a three-man team anyway. Go back to a solid play-by-play announcer, a "color" commentator, and two succinct sideline reporters. Focus on the game, that's the product.

Going back to Kornheiser, he's actually more annoying than the affirmative-action experiment of Robin Roberts trying to do play-by-play for college games on ESPN2.

Yeah, sadly, that seems to have been the case in the past, and the rumors swirl about such corruption. And the politicians string along the citizens and blame it on everyone else.

I'm curious as to what else could have been done with the $180 million they we just spent on the Superdome.

OUCH!

Is that for the slam on Kornheiser, Roberts, or both? ;)

Gee, I don't know if I like that. Payton was terrible in Dallas as the OC. He NEVER ran a double-reverse in three years. But he is doing great with NO.

Was that because of Payton, or Parcells?

Rush had a great comment on this: he said every time the camera goes OFF the field, it's equivalent to some drunks standing up in front of you at a game. It's crap. I'm sick of it. And replays! Esp. in the NBA, how often do they miss a great basket by showing a replay of a 3-point shot?

Maybe front New Orleans for a non-corrupt police force?
