LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson's only daughter, Hannah, married blues-rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd this weekend. Gibson, 26, and Shepherd, 29, of Benton, La., exchanged vows in California on Saturday, People magazine reported on its Web site.
Shepherd's albums include "Ledbetter Heights" and "Live On."
He proposed to Gibson on New Year's Eve 2004 in Rome, according to The Times of Shreveport, La.
Gibson, 50, and his wife, Robyn, have seven children. Hannah is their oldest child and only daughter.
The wedding came almost two months after Gibson, 50, star of the "Lethal Weapon" movies and director of "The Passion of the Christ," was arrested for drunken driving in Malibu on July 28.
Gibson has publicly apologized for an anti-Semitic tirade he unleashed when he was arrested. He has called the remarks "despicable."
In August, Gibson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge in a deal that called for alcohol rehabilitation, fines and probation.
what the news story leaves out is Kenny Wayne Shepherd is just his stage name. his actual name is kenny goldsteinowitz :-)
Kenny's middle name spells trouble, I tell you what!
possible rock and roll ping
I has read in more than one source that the daughter was a novice and wanted to be a nun. This seems a reach. What happened?
What does Gibson's daughter getting married have to do with her Dad getting arrested.
I had a friend who was a novice. But decided not to become a nun. I think that is why they have that period of time...to make sure that is the decision they want to make. I'm not Catholic so someone else might verify.
And Wayne's that are guitarists...
She dropped the habit.
Gibson is a conservative at least on social issues. Of course if it were a Kennedy who was getting married, it would be forbidden to mention that Ted Kennedy killed a woman by running his Oldsmobile off a bridge, or mention that Michael Skakel is now a convicted murderer who killed a neighbor girl when he was fifteen, or that Michael Kennedy had an affair with an under-aged baby sitter, or that Joseph P. Kennedy II coerced his ex-wife to help get a church annulment from his first marriage.
Many young women enter a religious order as a "postulant" or "novice," in order to see whether religious life, or a particular religious, is really for them. "Testing a vocation" is the technical term :-).
It's not unusual for the trial period to last from 5 to 10 years, during which an aspirant can leave the order for any reason, or be asked to leave, if the superiors believe she isn't in the right place.
Marriage is a religious vocation, too. I hope the couple is very happy. (Though I must admit that the combination of "Wayne" and "rock guitarist" would make me very nervous, if I were the mother of the bride!)
You forgot today's Kennedy news about the "mental illness" Patrick says he has.
Or that Rosemary Kennedy who was born mentally retarded and was lobotomized to keep her from causing any incidents that might get press coverage. There's just so much time and space on this forum to devote to the moral short comings of the Kennedy family. People have written thick books about them.
Just another opportunity to slam someone who's perceived as conservative. A few months back I read an AP story on Donna Hanover. It mentioned, 3 times in a 4 paragraph article, that Rudy had started dating his current wife while still married to Ms Hanover. That info had nothing to do with the article about Ms. Hanover. The MSM will try to crucify Rudy if he gets near the Presidential election. See? Any opportunity to bash a conservative.
Whew!
For a minute, I thought his daughter married a COUNTRY music star. God forbid!
Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a great ROCK and ROLL artist.
I've heard his name but never his music. Just checked out some entries on YouTube and he's quite the shredder.
got kinda that stevie ray riff going with the vocals and back beat.... not bad.
You're so right. He's excellent.
Go to Drudge: now father MEL is busy blasting Bush on Iraq. consevatives should not embrace Mel gibson - he is a looney.
