The Ryder Cup has begun with the four-ball matches at the K Club in Ireland.
"We would have been denied none of those match ups under these proposed changes."
Ok, not automatically. But Curtis Strange was taken by suprise by Torrance toploading his order with his best players. It's more likely that he would have tried to negate this and get his big names in play against some of the European big names under the Presidents Cup system.
Stuart Cink is on fire so far. Most of the matches close at the moment.
So you misspoke earlier.

These guys now on both sides are all so excellent that it really doesn't matter, in my opinion.
No matter ......... this will be a great day of golf.

Four golfers who like to gamble a little wind up in the same foursome. The pot builds throughout the day until they reach the 18th green, where Charlie has a chance to putt for dough. If he makes his 10-foot putt, he wins $200.
Charlie lines up his putt, but just as he's about to take his stance, a funeral procession begins passing by on the road that runs alongside the 18th hole.
Charlie steps away from his ball, sets down his putter, takes off his hat and places it over his heart, and waits for the funeral procession to completely pass. Once all the cars in the funeral procession have passed, Charlie picks up his putter and begins lining up the putt again.
"Wow," one of his opponents says. "That was the most touching thing I have ever seen. You've got a makeable putt for $200, yet you stopped and paid your respects.
You really are something."
"Well," Charlie says, "we were married for 25 years."

Tiger misses another short putt. Only 1up. Too many Euro leads now.
Re my earlier complaints about NBC's coverage - I heard from a good soul in Ireland - their SKY TV is putting on a more fair and upbeat report.
The way NBC is pushing it - they want the U.S. team to be "losers" - not just at the Ryder Cup - which makes NBC the big loser in my book.
Best of fortune to all the players on both teams. There will be a winner - but no "losers"....
Both good points, however I think the Ryder cup is so steeped in tradition the naming process has little chance.
They might go with your first suggestion of making the calls a little later in the day since that doesn't challenge tradition.
I love this game.
You may have heard the legend about why a round of golf ended up being 18 holes long???
That was the number of shots in an old bottle of fine Irish Whiskey.
LOL!
Regarding Tiger, I would disagree, somewhat. Fact is the reason he sucks is because his record doesn't match his own standards. The fact also is that he's 2 and 2 and if everyone on the team had the same relative record, the US would have gone into today TIED with the Euros. But, given that he's Tiger and he should be "The Man" and destroy everyone just by showing up...he sucks.
Also, you ability to determine his level of interest by reading his face goes wasted. With that kind of ability to read tells you should be on the World Series of Poker and make yourself some money doing it.
True to a point but it is still a bit disappointing, an I think if Lehman had split Tiger and Furyk up, more points may have been won.
Monty wins now 11-7.
Good stuff the last few minutes with all the bombs made on the greens.
I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait till the end of that day's play until the next day's pairings are announced. I think also they can let each set of matches complete before paring for the next set too. Not too muck break in tradition by doing that.
Darren Clarke chip in----another highlight. This is getting good now!!!!!!
It's fine as it is. No need to imitate the President's Cup. Bernhard Langer and Ian Woosnam didn't need more time. The role of the captains is overrated.
Absolutely..not only did that team NOT do well, it actually drug Furyk down.
Probably resulted in a net loss of 2 points or more over what they could have had...
but..
anyone can MMQ, even me :)
Yesterday I was listening to the live telecast at the Ryder Cup website (NBC's TV telecast wasn't live, how annoying). I don't know if it was a Sky or BBC broadcast or what. The British commentators where bending over backwards to give the Americans every benefit of the doubt. You would think, listening to them, that the Americans had an advantage being down 4 points going into the final day. I think part of that is the way the Euros used to think that the American players are 10 feet tall and nearly invincible. That's not the case anymore.
Very enjoyable Ryder Cup. Disappointing for USA but I don't think it was so much they played badly, as that this is the strongest European team ever.
Agreed.............. give 'em some good meals............ a number of beers ..... and let 'em play some golf!
;-)
Europe jsut finished it off

CONGRATS
Yes, sir.
It might have been the greatest, most cohesive and connected team of either teams EVER.
That is one great, geat team!
Congratulations again!
I'm an American but I love the folks who invented this game to do the job.
........ because Furyk had to play Tiger's ball!
RULES
Darren ........ sweet.
From an English point of view, it's good to see there is life after Nick Faldo. Four great Englishman on the team - Casey, Donald, Howell and Westwood.
Casey really may be the best player in golf very soon ........ and Luke Donald......... if you have seen his art work........ may be the greatest living artist.
