Boston Police passed out fliers yesterday making it perfectly clear they would not grant amnesty for marijuana possesion during the Boston Hemp Fest, but that didnt stop 19-year-old Will Germaine of Hastings, N.Y., from trying to conceal his stash in the BPD handout, police said.
Germaine and 52 others were arrested for marijuana possession during the pro-pot festival.
From $5 hemp leis and subscriptions to High Times magazine to T-shirts with slogans such as marilize legajuana, the all-day event was a cannabis buffet of reefer paraphernalia and freedom of expression.
When people smoke weed at Hemp Fest in Seattle, they dont get arrested, an unidentified man shouted into a microphone from the WBCN stage. People dont get hurt. You, unfortunately, are in the city of Boston.
Trying to arrest our way out of pot use is a fools errand, said Michael Cutler, a lawyer with norml.org, an organization working to reform marijuana laws. These policemen who are surrounding the Common should be searching for terrorists. They should be at Logan Airport.
Were here to support something that shouldnt be illegal, said Ben Foley of Hull, who was attending his third Boston Hemp Fest, officially titled the Fall Freedom Rally.
Its going to happen, said Townsend resident Marie Roche of the desire to legalize marijuana. Its just a matter of time.

I respectfully disagree.
I've been part of the cannabis community for 34 years and have known scores of people who use cannabis.
They are by and large fine citizens who happen to choose to relax at the end of the day with cannabis.
BTW - if you have such an objection to what you label as the "left" - why not just put a prohibition against the "left" instead of having laws that harm "right" thinkers like me.
"Just because, like the Tories of old, you have been propagandized to accept "The Kings word" as the ultimate truth, there are still free-thinking men and women who, rightfully, rebel against unjust, immoral and unconstitutional laws."
Ding, ding, ding!!! We have a winner.
(snip)and nothing like what it was even 30 years ago when I was in your camp.(snip)

I don't understand your neighborhood, but I have traveled this great nation from shore to shore and north to south - finding company with fine citizens who enjoy cannabis. Many pleasant stories could I tell, and have, if any were to search my posts.
Our Founding Fathers were the cream of the crop. The American Revolution was not driven by the rabble or common man. I imagine the British knew that.
With a few (medical) exceptions, here is the cannabis crowd's slate of fine candidates: http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4806.html
That's really all there is to say about this topic. Well, arrest records for criminals could say a lot more, but common sense will inform the thoughtful citizen.
I've read hundreds of Jefferson's letters and visited Monticello, I've read Franklin's autobiography, and I'm amazed at the providential life of Washington. Our Founding Fathers were products of the Enlightenment, and unusually interested in the advancement of human knowledge and science. I imagine they would be appalled at the the waste and nihilism of the modern drug culture.
------------------
By that standard - how might our Founding Fathers have felt about those who play video games and watch television shows such as ?????(pick a category that you consider a waste of time)?
While I'm on this mini-rant, how would our Founding Fathers feel about us not executing those who sell our national secrets and our federal leaders not fortifying our southern border?
I really don't think the Founding Fathers would be nearly as concerned with someone twisting up a bit of cannabis as they would be about the other things I mention. I think they would be appalled at the marijuana arrests numbering into the 700,000 per year range and the paramilitary tactics used by the police.

Apology accepted!
Actually when I first read that - I was getting ready to fire back a friendly - yet - clever retort.
grin
And, from where I sit, I have found alcoholics to be "the dregs of society" - much more so than pot smokers.
SO, as always with ALL WOS'Ders - your total ignorance and hypocrisy are on display for all to see.
And, many folks who smoke pot are also "the cream of the crop" - as are many freedom supporters - such as myself.
I know what WOD means, but what's the 'S' for?
Oh, dummies, you mean? They're not dopers, they're just dopes?
People who toe the line and can't think for themselves, I wouldn't expect to see a lot of those here.
Anytime you want to "compare accomplishments and character" against me, bring it on....
I have no doubt your life is writ large in your own mind. I would not, however, care to engage in a pissing contest with somebody that would fail a basic whiz quiz. Feel free to smoke all the dope you want - nobody is really stopping you. Same goes for suicide or any other personal activity society has seen fit to make illegal.
Here's another inspirational story from the "cream of the crop" crowd: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1703132/posts
Unlike yourself, however, I do think for myself - without succumbing to government propaganda.
I'll bet you both smoke and drink - 2 of the most powerful and dangerous drugs out there. Don't you just LOVE the smell of fascist hypocrisy on a Sunday afternoon???
