The praise for his talent just never quite resonates for me though. Yes, he was quick with a phrase and some of his lyrics are stunning in their simplicity (The Last Word In Lonesome Is Me), but he is something of an acquired taste. Your first instict is to go "who is this bumpkin?" and dismiss a lot of his two-minute-and-change ditties. You never know what's going to last, except that it's almost never what's popular right now.

Way cool! When I turned 18, disco was in, and I was in LaCrosse, WI. I don't think I got TOO crazy, but that was a LONG time ago!

Found it:
Lyrics for Album: All Time Greatest Hits
England swings like a pendulum do,
Bobbies on bicycles, two by two,
Westminster Abbey the tower of Big Ben,
The rosy red cheeks of the little children.
Now, if you huff and puff and you fina'lly save enough
Money up to take your family on a trip across the sea,
Take a tip before you take your trip; let me tell you where to go,
Go to Engeland, Oh;
Mama's old pajamas and your papa's mustache,
Falling out the window sill, frolic in the grass,
Tryin' to mock the way they talk fun but all in vain,
Gaping at the dapper men with derby hats and canes

IIRC, Roger wrote a C&W song entitled "If I Can't Be Your Number One, Then Number Two on You!"
I had heard that too but never could find anything on it, except maybe conversations on Internet forums.
That's related to a question I had for Lyle. Is there a website anywhere that lists all of Roger's 800+ songs? Not necessarily all the lyrics, but just one, big list.

I totally agree! Miller's soundtrack to Disney's Robin Hood was great!
Ev-ery town, gots it's ups and downs...

Red beer? D'you mean tomato beers, a.k.a. "redeye"? That would be it. Draft beer, tomato juice and a splash of Tobasco.
Goes down good on the morning after the night before.
